A long, long time ago, I found a dual-class guide webpage that described the best way to dual-class a fighter mage. I cannot find it, and I was wondering if the assembled braintrust of Sorcerer's Place might have a clue as to where it is. Thanks!

A Fighter that duals to another class should try to make it to level 7.
You get the extra 1/2 attack per turn this way, plus the other bonuses.
Only if you have TotSC or have the XP cap removed though or you'll hit the low XP cap in the regular game.

It's really worth it if you plan to take the character through BG 2 even though most of BG 1 you'll be waiting and waiting until 80% of the game is over to make the switch.

Actually, I "cheated" (and am going to "cheat" again this time) by playing the game through till I dualclass, exporting (with all the loot my character can carry), importing, and playing through the game again. I do plan on taking this character through BG 2.
