Alrighty, I thought that I'd give this blogging a go, but couldn't figure out what to babble about that would be of interest to you lot. ;)

Of course, I then realised that it didn't matter all that much whether anyone paid any attention. It is about time someone started to type something about doing sport- there are far too many armchair supporters here! :p So I have decided to use this as a sort of training log while I get fitter for a duathlon at the end of October (at least, I assume there are still spaces). The title is a phrase that caught my eye in a book I was reading, along with 'trying the tri'. Unfortunately, I think the author was American, as everyone over here would pronounce the last word as 'd-you'. Still, it is the thought that counts!

As to the training program itself: it actually started last week, but I didn't particularly want to start noting stuff about in down mid-week. For the first month, the weekly mesocycle will be build/recover/build/recover. After that, it will run build/build/recover. 5 days a week will be training endurance- some days will be biking, others running and a few brick sessions will be mixed in.

I suspect the training assumes that it is pretty much the only thing done each week, but I don't have any intention of changing the rest of my sport. This means I will also be doing trampolining, sword-training, badminton and a couple of weight-sessions in the week. If they get cancelled for any reason, swimming and climbing may be substituted in. Now I've seen it written down, I'm glad I have a sporty background!

    Some starting information:

Height - approximately 6' 1", give or take an inch
Weight - apparently about 170 lbs. It should be noted I have very little faith in the accuracy of those scales
Resting Heart Rate - 60 bpm (has been oddly high recently)

The duathlon itself is a sprint distance- 5km run, 18km bike and 3km finishing run. Everything is on country roads/trails.

    Total times for the week:
    100 minutes biking
    60 minutes running
    No bricks

That is about all I can think of just now; congratulations on reading all that. All questions/advice/support welcomed. :)

Good luck with your training! I hope that the next version of the blog addon has a views counter since every blog will get read far more often than commented.

Thanks Tal. It would indeed be interesting to see how often the blogs get read.
