[IMG] Can someone explain the idea of a D&D license to me? I mean, let's suppose I want to make a game that uses the Forgotten Realms setting (ergo, WotC territory). How much exactly do I have to pay them for this to be legit? Is the number known?

You can't, as far as I know. Only one game publisher (currently Atari) gets the licence for a set number of years, and they then pick the game developers to make the D&D games to be published by Atari.

Well, in that case, the question is: how to convince Atari to give such a license? Is there a process for this?

As soon as you have a game development company with at least a couple dozen employees and at least one critically acclaimed PC RPG that you've developed and released, you might want to start beginning to think about contacting Atari about developing a D&D game for them.

Not wanting to sound negative here or anything, but what's even more likely is that even if you have all the qualifications, chances are that Atari already has someone working on another D&D game in secret, or already has plans that include other companies than your own.
