Sometimes it can be very helpful...

Like staring of with a dwarf fighter then, after 4 level transforming him into a battleguard of tempus... Great tank...

But the example you suggested wouldn't work at all...

A sorcerer to a wizard... :nolike:

Say, starting with a sorcerer, you would have to give him a lot of charisma, cause thats what sorcerers spells depend on...

If you later would want to multiclass him to a wizard... Bad idea...

Cause the wizard craves high intelligence... And doesn't get any better with charisma...

Heres someother multiclasses that will profit:

    1) Fighter 4/Battleguard of Tempus X (mentioned)

    2) Fighter 4/Barbarian X (specialize in a weapon, use greater barbarian rage and power attack, and... rule)

    3) Ranger 4/Druid X (pick feats like rapid shot, sure strike... spells and bow from a distance... then transform into a bear and, well, kill them)

    Ofcourse there are many more,
    practice makes perfect... ;)

You mean multi-classing? Yes it can be very helpful, but not the type you mentioned.

    Try a Wizard/Rogue, Paladin/Fighter, Ranger/Fighter, Rogue/Monk, Cleric/Fighter, and maybe Druid/Fighter.

    But not Sorcerer/Wizard/Cleric.

that's right always think of two different classes in multiclassing..the sorcerer/wizard is one of the bad example...make sure the two class will both gain the bonus of their ability like paladin and sorcerer which depend on charisma attribute...

Kuldaharian, but Sorcerer 1/Specialist wizard # is good character, because one sorcerer level allows Specialist wizard to learn all spells.

Amon-Ra, IMO Rogue/Monk isn't really good idea, because other classes spoil monks unarmed attack bonuses (a bug?) :(

Rogue1/Monkx is ok since the BAB is unaffected and Rogues start off with more skill points. I don't multiclass monks though...

Due to the way the programmers setup the game, certain "cross breeds" work better than others.

I have to admit. The crossbreed thing made me smile. Crossbred mongrels, and whatnot.

Anyways, while you can multiclass anything in IwD2 (making sure the favored class thing works out for you), some multiclass combos just work better.

Giving one level of fighter to your cleric. Or one level of monk to your paladin. Or ranger.

The best thing to do is review what all the characters get at level 1, and see exactly who this would help bolster. Then you start looking at specific gains at levels up to 12, that would compliment another class well.

All this depends on how you play, too. You may have to change your playstyle just a little to accomodate the new member.

Well, I'm making through the game with Fighter3/Battleguard of Tempusx and he's really one mad tank... Except that I started with the Cleric kit and after that I made it through with Fighter... I intend making that untill I get all useful feats and when this happens I'll take Barbarian class a lot to provide myself the bloody rage one a good level...
    Overall: Fighter3/Barbarian2/Clericx - couldn't be stopped I'd say...

Good types are: fighter/cleric, fighter/barbarian, fighter/thief... Some mix between two or three will also make some good character. I intend puting my Thief on Fighter2/Clericx/Thief3...

Why not go for 4 fighterlevels to get the specialisation feat to put the bonusfeatpoint in?

What is the bonus feat point? Making two for one? Yeah! That's an idea! I'll progress very fast! :) ))

A fighter gets a bonus featpoint every second level. (at 2,4,6,8,10 etc) This aside from getting a bonus feat at 1st level. So a level 4 Fighter will have gained 3 bonus feats. (Of which one should go into Martial Weapon: Axes :D )
