i was just wonderning if it was worth the trouble of getting it, because I have a Caliver who has profs in 2-h swords but mainy uses a long sword and a shield.
also, I seem to have discovered a very good four member party. I have Minsc, Viconia, Jan, and My Cavilar. they are all using the UScript that is availbe at this site, and only at lvl 9, they are praticly chunking Everything in chap 2. please tell me if this is just luck or a good party.

Hey man, two words GET IT, Carsomyr (Holy Avenger) is the ultimate weapon for a Paladin to get, besides when you have it, you'll have sooo much fire resistance that any that uses fire as a weapon or spell, you couldnt feel it and just laugh in their faces :)

And as for your party, you cant really said "this is the best party combo", it all depends on your preferences and of course lucky dice rolls.

Carsomyr certainly has its advantages, no doubt about it. Aside from being one of only two +5 weapons in the game, the 50% magic resistance and "dispel on hit" abilities truly make this blade formidable. Perhaps too much so. If you are used to using a sword and shield combo, however, get ready for a serious reduction in AC.

If you have not already discovered so, retrieving the sword is not an option if you wish to complete the paladin stronghold. It is the last quest stronghold quest assigned to you by Sir Whatshisname.

Ahhh, but the best defence is a good offence. You'll be grateful you got the Holy Avenger when you're slicing up adamantite golems and demiliches. You've always got spells to buff yourself up if you need a lower likelihood of getting hit. Heck, theres even nothing to stop you swapping back to sword and shield during combat as inventory pausing is possible in BG2. Overall, Carsomyr one of the best rewards (along with loads of xp, plenty of cash and some dragon scales) for one of the best quests in the game, IMHO. Go and get it. Thats an order. :D
