Glad you're back on getting to ALFA :thumb:

The current version is 1.61. Newest is 1.62, but ALFA doesnt run on it yet. So yes, you cant use automatic updater. Gotta use the page above :)

So are all the ALFA servers running the HotU modifications for NWN? That part confuses me.

And were is the best place to start with a beginner character?

Well, for a first ever character, I myself started on the Daggerdale server.

At least thats where Sir Bel frequents... Or used too *shrugs* I don't keep up much with whats happening on that server now.

Another good server would be Nothern Cormyr, thats where Gothmog DM's, thats where I play, and Fade's evil Red wizard is just next door as it were. (In selgaunt)

If you're going for an evil character, Selgaunt would be a good choice. I can't say about the others though, I've yet to visit them.

Pop along to NC some time, :D tasty newbies. :  : (long story. I'll post in the ALFA adventures thread some time.)

edit: All the servers are currently running on HotU.

Just normal install with SoU and HotU. With Hakpacks downloaded. And the correct version (we dont update the version right away, must be tested first if it's good for ALFA). Membership too of course :)
There is talk of RP101 (sorta Roleplaying live tutorial). DM's can recommend a player for it, to get in. The latest talk is about recommending non-ALFA players. To see if one's a good RPer and for himself to know if he wants to be in ALFA. Most DMs are for the idea.

For starting server, i must recommend Northern Cormyr.
I DM there too. There are 2 other very active DMs, as well as a HDM who sometimes drops by and a more tech-like DM.
And it sure is interesting there, every day stuff going on! :)

Starting server I would recommend Waterdeep, Selgaunt, Shadowdale and Daggerdale.

Sorry, but NC's stuff is simply a high level server. A party of 4 level 5s will have trouble, and now the roads are just plain deadly at night for melee characters of almost any level.

I have only recently started to actually play on ALFA but I think that Waterdeep is indeed a very good server for starting character... if you stay clear of the docks at night that is.

Waterdeep's great for anyone! From level 1 to level 12.
Well, for the next week or so atleast, but then there'll be The Pirate Isles :p

It is true that many high-levels are walking on NC. But as long as there are DMs online it doesnt matter at all. DMs make a challenge, appropriately to the PC. Right now there are about 5 lvl1 PCs around. All living hapily. But yes, they dont go out venturing in the Hullack or Dell forest. Simply becouse their characters have heard so many dangerous things about it.
And i must say, lvl does not affect the fun you have in ALFA one bit. Not in the adventures i'm running.
Ask Triskaar, if lvl1 doesnt have a place in NC. She's a fighter and finds plenty of challenge all around. But, again, does not go to seek Ogres, naturaly.
