Okay, so I had an external hard drive (about 350 GB in it) and one day, one of my friends borrowed it to copy some stuff off of it, when apparently his roomates's friend tripped over the power cord and it fell to the ground. After that, the drive wasn't reading on my computer, so I sent it in for data recovery (having pretty much surmised that this would be necessary). I got a call back from them yesterday, and they said that there was "severe platter scoring" and they wouldn't be able to recover ANY data from it. Would a different company be able to do better, or should I accept this?

Probably not. Once the platters are scratched, you're pretty much screwed. The read/write heads "float" on a microscopic cushion of air...so a scratch (or even a large dust particle) will cause catastrophic damage. :nolike:

I'd make your friend's roomate buy you another drive. :rolling:
