It seems everyone here prefers Comet to Dragons Breath, why is that? I don't have the manual with me but I remember comet being 10d10 and Breath being 20d10, do people not like extra damage? What am I missing?

    No, both are party friendly.

According to the manual, Dragon's Breath does 20D10, but you can save for half. The manual makes no mention of a save for half damage for Comet (which does 10D10). Comet forces a save vs paralyzation, failure of which causes targets to be stunned for 1D4 rounds.

Dragon's Breath also blows away enemies which I do not think they can save against. Besides the animation is cooler.

I rarely used either of them.
Much better uses for those spell slots.

But Dragon Breath has the great advantage of hurting targets that resist most magic.

For instance, a Dragon Breath is an instant demi-lich killer.

As said above - dragonbreath is for demi-liches and other highly resistant gentry. Comet is nice when you target a group of casters or simply a group of foes you'd rather take one by one (like seal guards in WK). Other than these, I prefer multiple time stops. Alacrity is said to be fine, too.

What protection spells stop these two?

Can find the manual at the moment but I would say that protection from energy would, as well as some of the other resistant/deflection spells. Protection from fire?

the manual says they are all schools, so wouldn't that spell in 5th grade (don't know english name, in german it's "immunität gegen zauber") that makes you immune to one school of magic protect you?

I prefer dragon's breath, for six reasons.
1.Does More Damage Than The Comet
    2.Wider radius than the comet
    3.Instant demilich killer
4.Can hurt highly resistant magical opponents
    5.Sends opponents flying.
6.I also prefer(this may not be a very good reason) the animation for dragon's breath.

So choose dragon's breath as comet is, in my opinion, worse N.B: I still think comet is quite useful.

I use both equally. I usually use Comet on a single target, and Dragon's breath for multiple targets.

Dragon's Breath does wonders if you can get all the bad guys in The Oasis to surround you. :rolling:

Ironically, Dragon's Breath does tons of damage to dragons.

You know, I have never thought to use dragon's breath against a dragon.

I wonder, though, would it do all much damage to a red dragon, say Saladrex, if any damage at all? I also wonder if it would blow the dragon away like it does to other enemies. My guess would be that it doesn't but since I haven't tried it out yet, I could be wrong. :hmm:

I don't think dragons will be actually blown back, they'll just suffer damage. In one of my cheated games (ahem), Edwin killed Adalon in two Dragon Breaths...
Doesn't Dragon Breath do non-elemental damage? If so, then it would hit a red dragon, but I may be wrong.

For a solo mage or sorcerer I'd go Dragon's Breath, for party games I'd say comet. Range
