When you use the cloak of charming, is it cheating?

Situation: against the bad mage guy in cloakwood, he summons monsters, my hero charms them and the monsters kill the mage.
Isn't it too easy? This one mage is actually too tough in a regular fight.
Would it be worse if my hero charmed the mage instead?

you either gathered the funds to buy it, or had the skills to aquire it. So i don't see it as cheating. The option is there without entering cheat codes.

Personally, i prefer to stick to offensive spells and tanked up fighters. But then, that's just the way i play.

[IMG] Why would it be cheating? It's a good tactic, and completely valid.

It has an unlimited number of charges (not exactly, but effectively).

You can only use so many times a day I think.

    It not cheating!
    It's a brilliant idea!!!

    Charm the summoned monsters!
They have low intelligence so they charm easy.
Now why didn't I think of that? :whoa:

Mages normally have nice saving throws against charm so it would be harder to charm them.

There ara actually two almost similar "cloaks of charming". One of them is Algernon's Cloak(gained in Beregost somewhere), the other one is the Nymph's Cloak(Sorceror's Sundries). But that's another case.

Using the cloaks to charm everything you see around isn't cheating at all, but it might be kind of cheesy.

Anyway the cloaks has about 65000 charges(source: Gatekeeper)

By "cloak of charming" I meant Algernon's Cloak.
You can have it without much trouble, for instance if you hire Garrick.
This cloak can make a lot of fights easy, even tough monsters (sirines, basilisks...) or NPCs (this mage Davaeorn) are easily charmed.
I feel ashamed everytime my hero uses it.
But I understand it's not cheating, it's just cheesy :)

[IMG] Yes, Algernons Cloak and Nymph Cloak are great items, and Algernons Cloak is especially effective (ranged). I can recommend a good start for beginners: get it from Algernon in the early part of the game, and you can play easily.
I used them only in peaceful situations (f.e. stealing from somebody using Imoen) (I admit that I used them in battle at first time I had played the game)

Yeah, it's especially useful for charmig some fodder ;) But it's just as useful when stealing from someone, or when you face some flaming fist....
