Well for more melee power, you can't go wrong with the Battleguard of Tempus.

I like Stormlords because of the domain spells they get.

I think that more so than other classes, the choice of cleric kit is dictated by what shortcomings the rest of the party has.

Put another way, you design the other characters of your party. You then notice the party has some holes. You then select the Cleric kit that fills those holes.

For example, if a party is somewhat lacking in damage casting power, then the Stormlord of Talos and Morninglord of Lathander become attractive choices.

My choice of cleric was dictated by two key considerations:

I play a Tiefling Diviner. The Diviner cannot cast Conjuration spells, which include Monster Summoners (not that big a deal when you can use Animate Dead and others), cloud-effect spells (also not that big a deal), and the Power Word: spells, which for me are a big deal.

The only other character in my party who could wear plate armor was the Paladin. As such, I also wanted my Cleric to be a credible front-liner.

The other side of the equation, the Battleguard of Tempus.

[IMG] That's an interesting way of looking at it. I usually create a cleric after my fighters. I'll keep that in mind for my next party.

Battleguard of Tempus is the best fighting cleric and my favourite. Make some mix with Fighter and you'll have one good for all Cleric, who will help the front-line basher...
And I recommend you playing with a dwarf, because the gain points on axes, and... how to tell you... dwarves and axes are born for each other... :D

*Starts up the Battleguard of Tempus Bandwagon*

Definetely. Makes an excellent tank, so you can free up one slot by ditching a fighter :p

I also use my cleric as a secondary tank but I'm in favour of the Ilmater kit. The kit ability to increase constitution by 6 is excellent as are Stoneskin and other extra spells by way of domain like Holy Aura. Tempus is better for one on one melee, but the Ilmater soaks up damage better, will have better concentration scores with improved constitution which in turn makes it hard for the enemy to disrupt her spells. Overall, she seems better for the later stages of the game than the Tempus kit.

Maybe... I think that Tempus kit is perfect for a a solo character, because with him you can heal yourself quite nicely, and multiclassing with Fighter and Barbarian, you'll be very-very tough guy - and very-very powerful... :)

I guess that depends on what you want in a cleric. Someone who can take damage, or someone who can give it ;)

For a solo character I agree the Tempus is very powerful - all cleric kits in solo mode however are also very powerful as you get higher level spells real quick. I'd probably go with an Ilmater in solo mode however just for horrid wilting / animate undead combo and stoneskin. Plus I could have the option of multiclassing to a paladin for the holy avenger.

For an ultimate offensive cleric I'd choose Talos or Lathander for its offensive mass area domain spells. However, for solo, I also think that a Bane /thief with high dexterity would be an interesting all-round gaming choice. That way you can scout, pick locks etc..Mirror image / its invisibity spells are extremely useful for solo. Shades is really good at high levels and with executioner eyes you make a good summoner / general. If you want to melee later on you could use improved invisibility and black blade of disaster which is much more useful for a cleric than a mage (due to higher attack rolls).

I always want a cleric. Beren has a good way to choose which cleric would suit best in a party, but I work exactly the other way around. :D

For pure roleplaying aspects, I choose a cleric (or multiclassed cleric) and then decide what characters I need to get quite a balanced party. I also make sure that most chars have about the same alignment. I usually end up with a Morninglord. Next I'll pick is a paladin/cleric, probably Ilmaters Painbarer.

All the domains have their attractive features. A well-built Battleguard makes an excellent warrior, as does a Watcher Of Helm. Watchers are more defense than offense, but you know the old adage about the best offense being a good defence.
No-one has mentioned Oghma yet. Lorekeepers get some very nice spells with all those Symbol spells, which can really put the enemy at a disadvantage.

[IMG] I thinh that Morninglords are best... Lathanders renewal are one of the best skills a cleric can get... But, then again i've only played with Morninglords... Except now, i have a Painbearer of Ilmater...

They are all very well balanced actually. I once took a Cleric of Ilmater and she was the only party member who could get the Silver Wolf Charm from Guthwulfe by having high enough CON. The Ilmater special ability gives +6 CON...

I think that all the clerics are useful in their own ways. I even made a party of 6 clerics once. Fun ;) Absolutely no theological wrangling at all...

    Hmmm, difficult...

    For the fighting version, a heavy tank-cleric, I to would have to say;

dwarfish fighter 4/battleguard of tempus X

    But if you're looking for a pure cleric with loads of support spells, why not choose;

    human aasimar, morninglord of lathander...

    :yot:

I'm currently using neither... Hi hi hi...

    Choose DRUIDS!! ;)

    Dwarfish? Is that a half-dwarf/half Sahuagin? :p

I think I will try a all-clerics party once: Religious Rampage.
About the Silver Charm-thingy: You don't need that much Con to get it, and even when you get it, you can use it just 3 times. Not a big deal.

im a fan of the dreadmaster. the enchant magic can single handedly turn the tide of a lot of battles.
when you charm/dominate a creature, you have basically destroyed it. beyond that they attack other creatures, and other creatures attack them. combine it with animate dead, and when your archers and mages have had their way their numbers have greatly decreased.
the dialogue is the best in the game too =D

I've played with a Stormlord, a Painbearer, and most recently a Dreadmaster.

The Stormlord's are good fighters, the Painbearer was interesting, but the Dreadmaster has been soooooo much fun. He's my party leader, so he's got all the cool dialogue. The first guy you meet off the boat in Targos with the wounded arm recognizes you as a cleric. "Can you heal my arm?" "Dreadmasters of Bane are not known for their, uh, healing abilities." That made him the coolest character in the game, imho.

All in all, there's a clerical order out there to suit everyone's needs. Everyone has a favorite for one reason or another.

Can Demarch of Mask dual-class to Rogue? Because Rogue cannot dual class to Demarch of Mask, so I am asking this...
