[IMG] Hey guys, what do I earn the most spell slots on? Circlet of Netheril (+hit points and one extra 7th and 8th spell-slot) or a score of 20 intelligence (machine of Lum the Mad and the Ioun stone)? I play an elf fighter/mage level 28 fighter and 23 mage. Thx in advance

    /Marcus

Intelligence does not effect how many spells you can memorize. It just determines your lore and your chance to learn a spell.
    So, go with the circlet.

The circlet gives you more HP? Hmmm -- somehow I missed that as all I thought it did was give you the extra spells. Guess I should read descriptions a little more closely. Regardless, the extra spells are always handy, so go with that.

Gholam, IMHO, Intelligence SHOULD give you extra casting slots -- it only makes sense to me. Especially for Sorcerers. But, sadly, it doesn't, so go with the Circlet. And, while we're on the topic, I like to go a ways into ToB (though you can do it in SoA), get a whackload of $ gathered, go buy tons of scrolls, chug down 2 or 3 Potions of Genius (which raises INT by 4 / potion -- 25 INT, even temporarily, is cool), and memorize everything under the sun! Good XP, and it makes your mages quite versatile.

I like to do an XP-grabbing version of Lord Keldin's tactic. It's especially helpful when dualling a character.

For example: I have Yoshimo steal every memorizable scroll from every vendor that he can manage. (Potions to get his pickpocketing to 200 simply this).

Then I dual him to fighter. Then I have Aerie, Jan, and Edwin memorize scrolls for an hour. (Again intelligence potions simplify things here)

Poof! Yoshimo gains about 5 levels as a fighter, just from standing around watching those guys memorize spells.
