Than what was the eastern orthodox church???? Just some pholks "Over there?"
They are alot closer (in my opinion)to true chritianity than Roman Catholic church! Just read any Russian nineteenth century author. They have a very humble outlook on spiritual life. (My opinion, of coarse)

All churches were Catholic, till Martin Luther did his thing. They were called Christian, but when the big reformation happened, the people who didn'r reform were then called Catholic, and the reformed faiths branched out all over the place, creating tons and tons of new types of Christianity.

Than why dosn't Orthodox and Catholism have one leader? There not all the same!
Its like a Irish chic in a class in high school way back, she was so surprised that the Catholics in the US were a minority.
The church split in the 500s somewhere! Martin Lurther was just Weastern European with a chip on his shoulder! There is much more than Catholosism and protestants!

[IMG] This topic was started as a discussion about the gifts to be left under the tree this year, not as a discussion of various religious themes and/or origin of Christmas. If you want to discuss that, feel free to open a new topic, but leave this one for what it was made for. Effective immediately.

I want an mp3 player, a PS2, a 3D graphics card (can anyone say Voodoo), PS:T, TOB, and a couple of CD's in that order of preference? Anyone have money to bust?? :D

I just have to add, about the religion bit: I'm an atheist but I celebrate Christmas because it's a lot more than just a Christian holiday. It's the time to celebrate stuff like family, and giving, and the change of the year, and traditional stuff like red stockings, Christmas Trees, and Santa. If all I wanted to do was rejoice about the birth of Christ, I'd go to church or something.

    *meekly* Sorry, mods....

I love Christmas too. Of course I like getting presents (who doesn't?) but the whole holiday is great- food, parties, garish decorations (I'm a magpie and can't resist glitter), hokey music everyone can sing along with etc etc. In fact I arranged to get two weeks off work this year just to bake Christmas cookies!
