Has anyone actually managed to charm him? I find it totally impossible, even with the advice given by some guides.

(He's the bodyguard over at the De'Arnise place.)

Sorry, yes, I meant I'm not able to charm him and then talk to him afterwards.

In an old, old game I charmed him but, sorry, don't remember what happened. Probably what Barmy posted.

:edit: Must have been typing this when you posted.

Yes, I've done it, but it seems to be too random so I haven't bothered trying it for years.

There is a slight bug in the game.

There's a scripting action which is meant to make him Neutral after Charming, so you can talk to him. It does this by forcing a dispel. However, the level of this dispel is low so it does not always succeed.

I've done it, he explains where the other head is and how Nalias father was going to gather the other two heads and meet him where you forge the Flail of Ages.

IIRC, you need to use a very low-level charm. I think the best way to do this is using either a scroll of Charm (which casts the spell at level 1), or the Ring of Human Influence. Of course those will almost never pass through his saving throws, so Greater Malison first is a must.

This will still not ensure that it works properly (buggy scripting and all), but if you try it a few times I think it should work (it usually does in my games)

Ziad and Andy are on it; the dispel magic that is scripted on him after he's charmed generally fails since it's a low-level dispel.

One other option is to charm him and then wait for it to wear off--I've charmed and then rested to peacefully deal with Glacias.

IIRC he is not initially hostile. It takes a second for him to turn hostile. If you charm him before this it doesnt work.
The Ring of Human Influence works half the time.
I generally first cast an entangle in the room before stepping in. Hopefully he is held. If the ring fails then I use a charm spell.
Thus if you can manage to charm him after he starts to attack you, he will come to his sences and talk to you. Else it is a waste.

Have you tried charming then dispelling? I haven't done that, it's just a suggestion
