Hi guys. I was curious. Does anyone here who has the CHOICE of using Celestial fury NOT use it? I for one have not once used the Celestial Fury on any of my PC's. And even on my NPC's, only Valygar got it, in one game. Mind you, this is coming from an Axe Fanatic, who is constantly building better axes. What do you think?

I've played through not only SoA but also ToB (don't worry, no spoilers, just a statement of fact) and I've NEVER used Celestial Fury. I never even knew you could get into that stupid compound until a few days ago. I prefer Longswords, 2 handed swords, Crom Faeyr, and bows. So, IMHO, the sword is not that bloody necessary, especially if you don't have Valygar in your group (because he's the only character who starts out with any proficiency in Katana, IIRC).

I've only used Celestial Fury once, when I was soloing a Kensai. And even then I used it only when the enemies couldn't be hit by normal weapons.

I've only used it once as well. On Haer'Dalis, of all characters.

[EDIT: When I say mean "[o]n Haer'Dalis", I mean I equipped the guy to pieces, not hackin' 'n' slashin' him with it. :p ]

Before playing as a Sorcerer, I started BG 2 as a Half Orc Berseker! And I used Celestial Fury and Crom Faeyr all during the rest of the game..and I can assure you, it's really a killng machine if you know how to use it. Celestial Fury is perfect against Mind Flayers and Liches!!!

The Silver Bear - and you think that's a fun game experience? You went solo with that one?

Sure, it's fun to play God now and then (like my Kensai lvl 14 / Mage lvl 50, dualwielding Crom + CF, full profiencys, Ring of gaxx etc.) though the most fun thing so far for me, was that Human Stalker Dualwielding Short Swords - Like I normally play P&P games.

CF is sure not "neccesary" to finish the game.

No weapon is, cept for various enchantments, tho that doesn't really count.

Celestial Fury is IMO better than Carsomyr, does MASSIVE damage, especially as a one-handed sword, and onto that various bonuses. Godlike weapon IMO - so is Crom.

[Just a little add, that Kensai/Mage was with ToB installed and modded, therefor the high mage level]

I "ALWAYS" use Celestial Fury. 1d10+3 damage is really good, plus the stunning ability AND extra 20 damage chance is just wonderful.

I have yet to use it on a consistent basis. Of course I am aware of its prowess, but I tend to stick to long swords.

As said already, NO specific weapon is absolute necessary to finish the game. The best is to have one fire/acid weapon for trolls, one +4 weapon for you-know-who and (+3) for Iron Golems, a bashing weapon for clay golems, maybe a ranged weapon, and that's it.
I also know some people who lug along a normal weapon to take care of mages who cast Protection from Magical Weapons.

Again, none are necessary (ie: certain mage spells make up for it), nor does the Celestial Fury cover all of those needs.

...and Adamantine Golems? Atleast Axe +3 wont dmg those for me.

The point is that going with for example:

    Keldorn - Carsomyr
    Kensai - Celestial Fury
    Korgan - Crom Faeyr
    Minsc - Silver Sword

etc. tend to get kinda boring after a while, since it's more than possible to solo the game with atleast Inquisitor with Carsomyr, or a Fighter with CF/CF/SS.

    Cheers.

+3 weapons will damage Adamantine Golems. But they have around 90% resistance to physical damage, so it takes long time to bring them down.

Since you get it early in the game, Celestial Fury is fabulous for Yoshimo's backstabs. He is the other character who begins with a Katana proficiency.

I said eariler that Valygar was the only character who starts out with Katana, and someone in here pointed out that Yoshimo does too. The thing is, Yoshimo doesn't really register with me because of his *ahem* "limited utility" (that's a bit of a spoiler, sorry). So, sorry for being misleading.
