Did they increase the chance of this in EE? It seems like it's happening a lot and it would make more sense with the iron crisis.

Yeah, they did. First point of business after leaving candlekeep should be acquiring a +1 weapon or better, as magical weapons are not affected.
You could also use one of the normal weapons that are not effected (quarterstaves/crossbows/longbow/short bow/club/sling/darts) since they are not made out of metal.

Not that i know of, most of them are made of wood with at most some metal banding, so it makes sense they don't break.

What? No, they didn't. The probability has always been 1%.

By default, it only affects metal weapons since it's a per-attack effect. Shields and armor are unaffected without mods.

I remember reading a post on the beamdog forums claiming they increased it to 2% though. It sure feels like weapons are breaking more often then they used to, but that might just be RNG hating my ass. :p

Nope, it's 1%. Not that 1% is a particularly low number. That's 1 in 100 attacks, which can happen very quickly, especially on melee characters.

It doesn't matter overly much - I usually just bumrush my way over to a magical version of my weapon which won't break or go and kill Mulahey as soon as possible - once you finish with the nashkel mines, weapon breaking stops happening.

Does it? I don't think it does. There's only one version of a standard long sword and it has the breaking effect on it regardless of what happens in the game. You probably just don't notice it anymore because no one's using non-magical weapons.
