    I could think of several reasons why someone would do it. Most of them have to do with some kind of psychological imbalance. She might have been angry that a painting like that (strangely enough there are some people who don't understand abstract art. :D) is worth so much money while her own children's are won't sell for a quarter. Possibly she might have just been reacting to the image itself. If a painting strikes an emotional chord then it must be good - even if the chord is horror or a need to vomit. Another reason she might have had for doing that is maybe she knew the artist personally was just really pissed at him. It happens you know. :p
