Sure enough, the in-game music tends to get overlooked every now and then, but I suppose I'm not the only one who has felt overwhelmed by the impressive tracks a few games have delivered. I still keep music from a few soundtracks on my PC, such as Baldur's Gate II and VtM: Bloodlines.
Actually, Bloodlines actually came pretty close to getting the title as far as I'm concerned. Yet... Well, Westwood have done many well-sounding games, but nothing I've ever played the last 15 years has ever beaten Red Alert 1. Ever.

I think this has been covered. But here goes:

Ultima Underworld - The music to that game added so much to the atmosphere. When some of the score was later used in Master of Magic, I would get chills from it.

Great music and the radio stations took it to another level. I have spent hours on the various car missions listening to the various radia stations.

IceWind Dale: Heart of Winter also had a great soundtrack which really added to the athmosphere of the game world.

Monkey Island II: LeChuck's Revenge. If you're really quiet one time you may hear me whistling the tunes again and again and again. ;)

All soundtracks in Icewind Dale are good. Some in Half-life 2 is also really good.

My vote is for Battle for Middle Earth. It uses the music from the movies which is some of the best music I've ever heard. So when I heard it playing, I was amazed, its so sooting to the ears to hear that music while playing :D

I agree. Also, Heroes of M&M II and III are pretty good as well.

The music on Planescape Torment is just sick. Icewind Dale also has an awsome soundtrack.

I'd have to say Planescape Torment, with The Dig coming close behind

    I love the Final Fantasy Sountracks...especially 10, I have 7, 8 and 9 aswell!

Theres something for everyone on these soundtracks, and theres even some sites that do re-mixes of them so they sound even cooler!

yeah, FFX has an awesome soundtrack, especially the orchestrated version of "To Zanarkand"

I liked the character themes from FFVII as well, particularly cloud's and aeris'.

So far, most of the good soundtracks I've heard of have been named, though I can think of a couple other goodies.

Sonic Adventure had some great songs, even if they were rather corny at times... *cough*Amy's theme*cough*

Sonic Adventure 2 also had some great music, nothing beats speeding around at super-sonic speeds (pardon the pun) with wither "Open your Heart" or "Live and Learn" playing. Great songs.

Finally, I need to give kudos to Capcom, for Devil May Cry 3. Perfect ambience, and one "hell" of a theme.

Most of the Blizzard games. In particular the "Tristram" theme in Diablo. I can play the whole thing, and I am going to get our band to cover it. :)

The HOMM2 soundtrack is immensely enjoyable.

The infinity engine games are also up there with the best of them.

Very surprisingly, I liked the Doom/Doom 2 midi songs.

Doom 2 had some great music, especially Wormhole. That said, my vote is for Homeworld. I've never played a game where the music did such an excellant job both reflecting and shaping the mood and atmosphere as Homeworld.
