[IMG] I am in dire need of new music. I've had no new album since april, and that suck. Yes I am *that* addicted to music. I thought that maybe you could help me to find something new.

I would love something that rock real hard. Preferaly no Punk/ska. OR something in the Mamas and Papas style.

I have those record, maybe that'll gives you hint:

AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin, Supertramp, Janice Joplins, Bob Dylan, Mettalica, Children of Bodom, Rhapsody, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, CCR, Harmonium, Rammstein, Coldplay, The Beatles, The Rolling stones, Iron Maiden, and that's about it

    Thanks in advance folk :)

As far as 70s are concerned, I would suggest the following:

    1. Blue Oyster Cult - If you are totally unfamiliar with them, buy one of their live albums, especially "Some enchanted evening" and "Extraterrestrial Live", you can find their best songs in these two.

    2. Rainbow - Since you are a Deep Purple fan, you are going to love them. Try to listen every album with Dio on vocals.

    3. Uriah Heep - Every album with David Byron on vocals (perhaps except "High and mighty").

4.Alice Cooper - Try his first albums , they have nothing to do with the BS he released on 80s.

5.Bachman Turner Overdrive - You are Canadian, right? Then support your countrymen.

    80s

1.Helloween - The fathers of european power metal. Try any album with Kai Hansen on guitar.

2.Saxon - Same generation with Iron Maiden. I suggest again to prefer a live album, preferably "The eagle has landed".

    3. Accept - The fathers of the german metal scene. Everything with Udo Dirkschneider on vocals. If you find the live album "Staying a life" grab it and don't let it go.

    4. Twisted Sister - Their first four albums are masterpieces. If you are teenager, songs like "We're not gonna take it" or "S.M.F." are going to be your personal anthems

I could go on forever with this, so it's better to stop now.

Blind Guardian are considered a classic power metal band now? Man, I must be too old.

I was totally blown away by the new System of a Down album, the best thing I've heard in a long time. Great contrasts between hectic/heavy verses and melodic choruses.

The Mars Volta is another great band, although they are very psycedelic and might not be for everyone. The singer and guitar player used to be in At the Drive-in. Their two records De-loused in the Comatorium and Frances the Mute are exellent.

Also you need to get som The Who albums, my personal favorites are Who's Next and Quadrophenia. The Who is definetly one of the best bands of the 60's and 70's.

Another band not included on your list is The Doors, all of their records are great.

Thin Lizzy should also get a mention, Jailbreak, China Town, Black Rose and many more are classic rock albums.

Three less well known bands that have hade a huge influence on rock and punk are MC5, Iggy & the Stooges and The New York Dolls. These bands are definetly worth checking out.

You cannot go wrong with any Moonspell album. Their albums go from death metal, folk orientated, gothic to a more traditional metal. I would recommend 'Sin Pecado' if you want something experimental or 'Wolfheart' if you want something folky and death metal.

Opeth is good, but very hard to get into, as they are considered the dreaded 'P' word (progressive).

You cannot go wrong with the so-called Celtic/Pagan metal genre:

    Primordial
    Nvind
    Ensiferum
    Moonsorrow
    Fintroll
    etc

[IMG] Nightwish play a sort of symphonic metal... not unlike Rhapsody - it seems to me you might like them...

Only Nightwish's last two albums are really symphonic, the other three are power metal.

    U2 - Achtung baby

Best album of the band and more in your 'Rocking' Style than any other U2 album.

Black Sabbath - pick one of the first four albums for starters. Heavy and dark.

BOC mentioned Rainbow. You really can't go wrong there.

If you like Bob Dylan, you may want to give The Band a try. They backed Dylan on the "Blonde on Blonde" LP and worked with him quite a bit in the late 60's. Start with their second album (referred to as the brown album, although it is just called The Band), or "Rock of Ages" which is a live double album that encompasses their first four albums.

I see that you like Pink Floyd. If you are into progressive rock, give Yes (Close to the Edge) or Emerson, Lake and Palmer (Brain Salad Surgery) a try.
