In a Voice Acting group I belong to I ran across a request for VAs for the above named project. It is a not-for-profit effort. Redoing BG II to use the Dragon Age engine.

I just wonder if anyone knew anything about this projec.

    Balur's Gate Redux Module 1 & 2.

edit: Sorry guys -Dragon age engine gotcha.

Links to Baldur's Gate II Redux-Irenicus Dungeon

Here is a link to a trailer of thehttp://www.learninglaw.org/trademark/baldurs-gate-redux-module-1-trailer?ref=nf

Here is a link to the Module I on Dragon Age NEXUS.

You will need to have Dragon Age/Origins installed to play the mod. It is almost 300 MB in size and only covers the dungeon.

The second module is a work in process.

Due to the demand that all lines be voiced both modules are being voiced over.
Alas we may lose Minsc's distinctive voice.

You will need BG II installed to play the second module.

I'll certainly give it a look. It's a bit of a mammoth undertaking to do the whole lot though, so the project will probably get canned.

:D Pessimist. You are right it is mammoth project. Module 1 covers thedungeon, Module 2 the promenarde/circus. I have seen smaller projects fall by the way side but I give them merit for trying. They aren't re-doing the original story but moving it into the Dragon Age Engine. I have no idea how much work that entails but it surely can't be easy.

Unfortunately the VO will mean Minxc's unique voice will be lost. For those of us who played the game over and over this will seem strange.

It's huge that much is true but they don't have to come up with new stories, write dialogues or create a plot or anything.

I haven't tried the DAO version of Irenicus Dungeon (yet) but I'm really curious about this.

The problem is that if they didn't use voicing it would sound really weird in DAO to have a character just standing there while going through lines at the bottom of the screen.

Still, hearing some other voice while talking to a well known character like Minsc is probably annoying.

 If they can get an interesting voice it might not be too bad. Minsc is such a unique character that I hope they find a unique voice. A person willing able to stay for the long hall. That is one big problem with VOing the party members. People come and go and these are volunteers.

Since I have audition for some of the female parts I am hoping that I get at least a supporting character part. Wish me luck, guys. :D

I can't help it. I am so excited about this project. Module 1 is great. The graphics are wonderful and yet true to the original game. I was a bit worried about that. Being a hardcore, addicted fan I am one of those pesky people who says "Don't mess with my game". This is Baldur's Gate/SoA but with graphics I can deal with.

A while back I was going through games that had been stuffed in a closet and I ran across BG II GotY which appeared to be unopened. I thought maybe it had gotten stuck closed and opened it. Lo and behold, I had never opened, the plastic was still sealed around the disk. I looked at it sadly thinking I really should see if someone would like but procrastinated. Now all I have to do is figure out how to install it to Windows 7.

I know the re-released games say there are W7 compatible but is the true original game?

Hokay, I can't resist I have to do a little bragging. Oh wondrous day, oh joy of joy, I got a small voice acting part in the Module 2 of the Redux. It is the shopkeeper who sells lithium (spelling). One of the Temple District quests. Just being picked to do that tiny part has made me as happy as a mouse with a pound of cheese.

You mean Jerlia? She's the one who sells Illithium in the Sir Sarles quest. (Just did it today. The quest, that is; not the voice part.:D)

Oh, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :)

Thank you, Montresor. Better yet download the first Module, Irenicus Dungeon found on DA:O Nexus and bolster the confidence of the developers of the Redux. :D That way they will keep working. I understand that development has started on the Government district. I don't remember much in the way of female parts there. Doesn't Vicky show up there? I haven't played this game for so long I am beginning to forget things or maybe it is just age catching up with me. No I refuse!

Wish they would do the Slum there are female parts there. Remember the womean in the Copper Coronet looking for her husband? A real shrew, I should be able to do that one standing on my head. :D

This sounds really exciting. :D There's bound to be hours upon hours of work in store for these people, so they have my respect for having come as far as they have. (Yes, I think the dungeon part alone is far.) :D

Hours upon hours? Try months upon months, or even years upon years. ;) I think they have set their abmitions a bit too high, trying to do things like include full voice acting for the initial release, and so forth. I wish them well, and would love to play BG2 in the DA engine one day-- even if I only get to have a 4 person party.

...and there are hours upon hours of each month and each year. ;) Besides, those who never aim for the top never get anywhere. It's ambitious, sure, but it's not impossible. ;)

This project, charming form sure, given all the beauty of BG, is quite professionally done!
But I too believe that covering all of BG will be a monumental undertaking!

They maybe stand a chance, if they choose to do only Plot relevant locations and make the game linear-er.

But the abundance of locations and side-quests make BG's charm!

    Still wish them the best!

Well, often those who aim for the top don't get anywhere either... especially when we're talking about a MAJOR development effort that no one is getting paid for. Real life has a way of pulling people away before they reach their goals.

That said, I have no problem holding out hope that they accomplish their task, even if it is but a fool's hope. Hey, if Frodo managed to get the Ring to Mt. Doom, than I guess anything is possible.

In theory, sure, but those reinforcements often never come. A certain amount of talent/skill is needed for these sorts of projects, so not just anyone who wants to help necessarily can. Appropriately skilled, willing participants are usually in short supply.

If your project lead burns out, and can no longer work on the project, than that's where most projects become worse than doomed. A coordinated effort like this doesn't happen by accident. Leadership is require to keep it moving forward. If you lose your strong leader, then your project is pretty much guaranteed to fizzle. More of these projects die before they are completed than those that make it to the finish line (by a significant margin). The more ambitious the project, the less likely it is to succeed.

But there are always exceptions to the rule. Hoping BG Redux turns out to be one of them (again, I'm trying not to be a storm cloud here).
