As you may have noticed, unless you have reached the stage of automatically ignoring all my posts, chatroom comments etc. on the basis that I have nothing worthwhile to say, I have been absent from these boards for the past week or so. The reason is that I have recently moved to university, and it took some time to get the internet connection up and running from my room. Anyway, its now running, free, fast and 24 hours a day - but it's via a proxy server and mIRC don't work for me no more. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

hmm turn the proxy on in mirc. the command goes like /firewall <ip> on

but of course you may still need to specify that it's a proxy for the default is socks and the default port is 1080 (which in general is the port for proxies)

or else there are java irc clients you can use via your browser.

I am on proxy too. I use a java-aplet. It takes a hell of a time to load friendly arms inn (roughly 3 minutes next to 5 seconds on normal machines) and I can only enter on quickchat. Anyway I know this much about computers though:

  5. Use quickchat... it isn't THAT bad. It's only crap compared to mIRC.

I dare you Headbanger. Say Indeed one more time ever :p

Try and avoid quick chat, if you find a way. It is a problem if you chat from a country that has many ppl on the chat.
