Any reason I shouldn't take a hammer to a PoJ printer?

Since 1998 I'd been using an HP DeskJet 812c, however last year I was confronted with a dilemma that made me retire it.
At the stores the costs of catridges were too expensive.
    Cost of a black #15 cartridge: $35-$40
    Cost of a color #23 cartridge: $45-$49.95
Cost of a new Deskjet 1000 printer with cartridges included: $29

Then I needed new cartridges, and I found the cost was about $25 to replace both of them, while the same model was still $29 new. I bought a new one.

However, I was lazy and I just grabbed the new cartridges and put them in the old one. The old one is now giving me nothing but trouble and I need to fiddle with it every time I print. Part of it seems like the paper thickness adjustor is set for a thick cardboard instead of printer paper, but I can find no such control on this model of printer and it doesn't appear to support such things. I have looked at the pathetic excuse for a manual and online.

I'm taking the new printer and replacing the old one, and am wondering, is there any reason I shouldn't take my grandpa's sledgehammer and work out some of the grief and frustration it's been giving me on said printer with said sledgehammer?

It's going in the trash anyways... So why not?

Am I just being childish and immature about it?

No, retribution is always in order for appliances that fail you.

Wear safety goggles, though, as the printer's last desperate act may be to send plastic shards flying in your direction.

That would be a very cruel and insensitive way to treat a sledgehammer.

You may want to watch Office Space before starting, to make sure you are following proper form for this activity.

At the moment Youtube doesn't appear to be blocking this vid:

(Also includes a Family Guy version, since the one without this has been blocked. Boo Youtube.

Aside from smashing the old printer, typically the ink cartridges included with a new printer are low-capacity ones (lower than any replacement you could buy), so it's not usually a great idea to buy a new printer instead of replacement ink cartridges.

But yeah, they make their money selling ink, not printers.

What's this? An actual, legitimate response to the OP? Shameful!

Sadly, I haven't smashed the printer yet because of the sleet, freezing rain, and then the ice.
Also, thanks, I thought I'd seen somebody doing that in a movie once, but I forgot what movie.
    I enjoyed Office space.

I'll remember about the low-capacity ink when it this one runs out. I'm afraid to smash the thing inside due to the shards. I was just so frustrated with the thing when I swapped it for the new one I wanted to smash it, but then I opened the door and saw the sleet outside and decided to wait.

We've had nasty weather the last couple days in Chicagoland.

I wouldn't do it in your back yard in Chicagoland. Someone will think you've cracked up and call the authorities.
