Any love for Philip Glass?

Does anyone else in these parts think Philip Glass is one of the best composers of the late 20th century? Anyone who's watched the Qatsi trilogy would probably agree with me, but what do ythe rest of you think? Eh?

Yes, composer. The guy who writes the scores to which the musicians play their instruments. Philip Glass is a composer.

Philip Glass is great. I have to say I've got mixed feelings about the Qatsi trilogy though. Koyaanisqatsi is the best movie I've seen, coupled to the best soundtrack I've heard. Powaqqatsi by comparison was a huge letdown, and so was the music. Naqoyqatsi redefines "cheating" for me, as it's got a fantastic soundtrack coupled to an absolutely dreadful movie. I did close my eyes several times while watching it just because I didn't want the movie to "interfere" with the music :p

Glass has some other really good stuff as well, such as Itaipu. He's also "remixed" two David Bowie albums, Low and Heroes, into a classical orchestra. Low Symphony was very disappointing, but Heroes Symphony is really good. Einstein on the Beach is also a very strange but very good piece (I've not seen it in "opera" form though)

I've only seen Koyaanisqatsi, un(?)fortunately, so I wouldn't be able to make a judgement on that one. Anyone who's never heard Philip Glass before can pick up some of his music on his site.

Nope, I'm a heathern. The only thing that comes to mind with Philip Glass is the South Park Christmas special.
