    I read somewhere on one of these boards (tried to search it and couldnt find it again) where someone was annoyed by this sound:

    "You must gather your party before venturing forth" from the Baldur's Gate series.

    I couldn't agree with you more. Another sound that annoys me is:

    "Updated my journal" from Planescape Torment
    (And doesn't the fight music remind you of the fight music from the original Star Trek TV series? Not that it sounds the same, but the way it builds up)

    What other sounds annoy you guys from the games?

    Rome: Total War - demolishing a building sound. It's so damn loud compared to everything else. The "Attack" cry of Arab nations.

    Any game which tries to make "music" from the PC speaker. Gosh they are awful, it's better to play in silience. Sound effects on PC speaker can be tolerated though.

    @Blog

    Did you play Civilization 1? I loved those IBM sounds, especially when your chariot was victorious against an enemy unit.

    Anyway, the goblins and brain suckers in Might and Magic VI have pretty annoying sounds

    The only Civilization I played was on a SNES emulator, and none of the sound/music came from the PC speaker.

    The sound of an Ironclad in Civ III. It's way louder than anything else and forces you turn the volume down to almost nothing, after which you can't hear the other sounds.

    Anything which uses those bloody awful internal beeping sounds, *shudder*
    Try turning on one of those late at night, 'tis a very bad experience.

    I remember back when I was in high school I had to repeatedly play a very lousy RPG (I really can't recall its name) that some hack compiled in C with horribly lame internal speaker music that sounded like someone took a bunch of trumpet sheet music, looked up the frequency of the various notes, and programmed them in as beeps. By the time I was finished I would cringe seconds in advance whenever I knew the music was about to start. The sound effects were almost equally bad.

    Oh, just a second, that would have been the game I made for my independent study project for one of my computer classes. :p

    Oh well, I did get an A+ on the project.
