Can somebody recommend an alternate to AOL Instant Messenger that is more like AIM 4.7 than the current monstrosity that dropped things like away messages and the ability to increase the text size of incoming messages in favor of this tiny 10-pixel text? If it was 10-point that scaled it MIGHT be acceptable, but not 10-pixel.

The away messages and the text size are my biggest peeves, but I miss the other features from the old versions too such as file transfer and IM image.

any way to get it to import the entire buddly list instead of just "me" and "recent chats"?

I can't even figure out how to export the buddy list anymore with this crappy version on Windows 7. Maybe I can still do it with Windows 98SE, but I don't see an import for pigin.

Did you solve the problem in the meantime?

If not, can you tell me how the old AIM client managed lists? Do you remember if there was some .xml file of some sort in its install directory?
Pidgin is often frustrating (and as a 90% Linux user I know it well), but also very flexible.
I might be able to help you given the above information.

I'll look into into it tomorrow. I'm very tired tonight. My snowblower malfunctioned and I had to shovel snow. I'm just going to relax and be lazy tonight.
