[IMG] I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card probably the GeForce 6600 AGP 256Mb, there is some multiplier in the BIOS I can look at to see what my something or other is. Does anybody know what I'm looking for and what it should be and how to look at it in the BIOS?

Do you mean wether it is a APGx4, x8, or x12? If is that you'll know by the mother board.

Apparently there is a multipluer which is how fast the card or something can run and it's in the BIOS. The guy who mentioned this at work wandered off before I could ask him what he meant, hence the question.

EDIT: Possibly Mauro but his comment was I had to find this out before I bought the card, because if it's not high enough, there's no point buying the card. Where is it then?

Is how fast the video card will run.

Do you now which motherboard you have?

EDIT: With the information that I found about your PC, the video card that you mention "GeForce 6600 AGP 256Mb" will work with your system!!

    Again, good luck

Yeah, that multiplier can be cranked up to overclock your GPU. I don't exactly recommand that, however.

Will your motherboard support PCI-Express? If so, that's significantly better than AGP.

If you have to stick with an AGP, go with the card Mauro recommended. It's about the best thing around that's still in an AGP version. I bought an nVidia 5900XT 128mb about the same time as the 6 series came out, and I planned on it being my last AGP card, because the technology for it is dead. PCI-Express is the future.

So if getting a new motherboard is something you're open to (which at this time, I would recommend), spring for a PCI-Express card. It's a better investment. As Rastor says, they're a truckload better.

I'm not going to build a new pc, and I don't think so Rastor. I'm happy with the AGP for now, next year will be new PC time.

Then in that case, the nVidia 6600GT is the way to go. And it's CHEAP right now. Go forth, wreak havoc.
