"Forget not, Roman, that it is your special genius to rule the people; To impose the ways of peace, to spare the defeated, and to crush those proud men who will not submit."

    Virgil, The Aeneid

Does the above remind you of a similar attitude held by a particular superpower in today's age?

Actually, TMH, the quote that comes most to my mind whenever I read your posts is the sign at the Faerun zoo that says, "WARNING: Do Not Feed The Troll."

We all know his shortcomings, we don't need you picking fights about them.

I'll add a couple more of Virgil's quotes:

Romans, never forget that government is your medium! Be this your art: to practice men in habit of peace, generosity to the conquered, and firmness against aggressors.

Yield not to evils, but attack all the more boldly.

    And Winston Churchill:

One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.

Nothing beats Machiavelli when it comes to quotes, though. The Prince is by far the best book on the subject of warfare and politics that have ever been written.

Quotes are a cheap and meaningless way of making a point.

A quote is merely a collection of words that someone has said. You don't need someone else's words to understand the subject at hand. All it gives you is there viewpoint, which isn't always as important as people make out.

Some people put far too much stock in quotes.

Or perhaps I used the quote to demonstrate that the elitist attitudes of superpowers has remained unchanged throughout time, despite the fact that we currently live in a 'civilized' age.

Do I need to spoon feed you people?

You apparently have missed out on the fact that the posters here know what you were trying to say and, frankly, the idea is nothing new. It's been around since my parents were kids. Probably longer.
