I haven't really messed with wands much in NWN (or wizards\sorcerors\bards for that matter), but IIRC, you don't equip a wand like a weapon to use it, but just Use it from you pack or belt, right?

Are there and wands (in game or custom mods) that work like a standard weapon? ie, you equip it and when you pick a target to attack, the PC points the wand and fires?

Here's why I ask: It might sound a bit unbalanced (or a little to "Harry Potter-ish"), but it seem a little unfair to me that a lvl 1 fighter can buy a sword and have unlimited attacks (or buy a bow and have basically unlimited attacks), but a lvl1 wizard only gets a couple of spells and then must rely on melee weapons, or henchmen, or summons...

To me, the point of being a magicuser is to use magic. Why not let wizards and sorcerors have a basic wand with a level 0 or level 1 spell, something that does about 1d4 damage and has a fire right slower than a bow and arrow (let's say half).

That way the wizard can feel like a wizard, rather than a poor fighter in a dress...

i agree with you completely, but i don't think it's possible.all the wands and rods i've seen can only be used from the bottom bar,and they have a limited amount of charges.game makers should pay attention to you.a wizard should get a wand to use that never dies

In the OC, you get a wand of Ray of Frost which has unlimited charges.

And with the advent of HotU, you can enchant your own items. Scrolls for example.
