[IMG] everytime I try to load Fallout 2 a message comes up saying "can't find/load text fonts" and I can't get into the game, I tried reinstalling but a message comes up saying they can't find master.dat and critters.dat.... it's also already patched, so does anybody know what's the problem??

I suspect you're trying to install it on Win2K/WinXP.

I'd never even tried that, however, try to do what says for Fallout 1 installation on WinNT here:
    http://www.interplay.com/fallout/faq.html
Read the title "How can I install to WinNT?".

Make sure you don't mess the cfg file, but instead of that, copy critter.dat and others in Fallout folder.

And one thing more, to run Fallout 2 under XP, I bet you also need to run the compatability program: Start->Programs->Utilities(?)->Program-Compability Assistant

[IMG] Fallout 2 installs fine in Win 2k, just not Fallout 1.

I've gotten fo1 and fo2 to play under win2k and winxp. Hell, they're both just NT.

The only single variable in the .cfg file that you must change is "free_space=0".

That's it. They both play perfectly after that. Minimum or full installs.

If you're having problems with it saying "fonts", first thing I'd do is save back the savegames, and just reinstall the game. Pick the minimum (5 meg) install, and just make sure the thing works. You can always manually copy over the .dat files and change the .cfg file.

"free_space=0" is all you need. Delete the "freespace=21300" or whatever it is that fo1 puts in there, and change it to the _ one.
