[IMG] Now that should be a very powerful processor.
But is not for sale yet. We'll have to wait about 5 years or so. Or until AMD comes up with an earlier answer.

But we will see Quad core processors this year, so that should help with the waiting.

    Link.

Where have you been? The Intel Core 2 Quad has been out for a number of weeks now. linkage

As for Intel's fancy new project, I highly doubt that we'll be seeing a jump to the teraflop speed on desktop computers within 5 to 10 years. Intel might have the chip working in 5 years, but that doesn't mean they'll be putting them on desktop boards. :bad:
Spoken like a true AMD fan. :shake: Last I heard, AMD was still trying to absorb ATI's video technology...

Personally, I can't wait to see is a "Chaos" chip on desktop boards. Read: a chip that can change the way it works to suit the current application. Chaos linkage :rolling:

What do you use to cool one of those? The Antartic Ocean?

What do you think is melting the Arctic Ice cap? Global Warming? Hah, it is cooling system for the Gov't secret spy computer that is tracking everything we say and...

Uh, never mind, nothing to see here, just move on.

Speaking of cooling... There's a new device of sorts under development that basically brings liquid cooling to the inside of a CPU or other large footprint chip. IIRC, it goes on top of the actual silicon chip and helps transfer the heat off the chip to the outer surface of the package.

If air-cooling can't handle the job alone, there's always TEC, full-scale liquid cooling, phase change, or in a worst case scenario: full submersion of liquid N2. :p :shake:

Then again, if each core is clocked at a relativly slow speed, and has low pawer consumption, a basic HSF might be all that's required. :rolling:
