[IMG] I read something once where someone was giving technical advice to another and they told them to clean out their cache in BG2. What the heck does this mean? How do I know when my cache needs cleaning? And how do I clean it?

You don't normally need to clean the cache. Sometimes a file in there gets corrupted, causing the game to crash, and deleting it fixes the problem.

Essentially what the cache is, is a place where recently used files like the last few areas you've been in are kept so that they can be loaded more quickly, especially if you didn't do a full install, and it would have to get the data from the CD otherwise.

The cache folder is a folder named "cache" under your install directory, and you can delete the files in there if you want without any adverse effects.

It was recommended to me as an attempted fix for my problem I was having with my game lurching when I was in the first portion of the underdark...

under your install/cache/data directory, there are *.bif files... these are evidently pulled by the game to allow faster transition of area loading... I deleted these, (after saving copies elsewhere) and it didn't work... I'm chalking my problem up to just a game quirk as it works fine everywhere else.
