    [IMG] Click on your weapon icon on the bottom of the screen (i.e. Minsc's two-handed sword if you have Minsc), now hold and click over desired bashable object (i.e. door, chest, enemy :p) then wait for the character to walk over to it and see what the text says. A higher strength always helps (as do strength enhancing potions ;))

    But if you have no thief Ragusa :p or one that isn't skilled enough ...

    You need a high strength, then open the door by "attacking" it - so easy.
    Stupid idea though since a thief gains xp by opening it the elegant way.

    PS: :1eye: Parties without a thief ??! - impossible ... well at least stupid :D :p :1eye:

    PPS: Too late :flaming::mad:

    Even if you had 25 STR theres still only a 80% chance it will be bashed open.

    I'm soloing as a lone half-orc kensai and my best friend for bashing open vital locks is the "draw upon holy might" special ability.

    Sure it's a waste of a good ability but opening chests with vital items is always more useful than gaining a small advantage in battle.

    Yep, but the knock spell has the disadvantage (a) not to harvest valuable xp for easy work and (b) to occupy a slot that could be spent for a mirror image, agnazar's scorcer or melf's acid arrow ...

    Thieves are the only elegant and the most rewarding solution to deal with locked doors :D :1eye:

    Well if your a scorcerer then it really doesn't occupy a spot and since theres nto that many lvl 1 spells that are great to have it works out.

    Knock is second level.

    If I need Knock, I just memorize and sleep or bring some scrolls.

    I was using a Cleric/Fighter hammer Dwarf to open locks. Go inside the room (it had people in it), cast the Priest spell that makes people ignore you (purple glow, can't remember the exact name).

    Then I proceeded to bash and crash away at the chests, all the while the people just ignored me! :)
