[IMG] Ok so these guys get magic resistance (bit by bit) and they get advanced spell disruption (for each successful hit on an opponent, 10% cumulative spell failure penalty is applied)

The majority of mages don't have a lot of hitpoints, after 10 successful hits-a good warrior should have the mage killed by then.
And a good warrior would already be disrupting an enemy mage with his hits. Is this worth the price of losing the ability to use magical items except for weapons and armor but including potions?!?

wizard slayer is a flawed kit. One questions the worthiness of the cumulative spell failure imbued with each successful hit to the hostile target when the hits themselves kill the mage outright.

note wizard slayers CAN'T drink potions. This is by far the most serious impairment to the kit. Think about it, this guy is a fighter, he is supposed to be upfront beating up the enemies (preferably spell casters :p ); if he gets low on health u have two options to prevent him from dying. u can either send your clerics to heal him if the wizard slayer lives long enough for your cleric to touch him; but you unwittingly endangers your clerics. Or you can take him out from the heat of the battle until every enemy that might attack him is slain. Both ways you lose valuable turns that might tilt the outcome of the battle to your enemies favor.

but this is only my humble opinion. :D Perhaps you have a awe-inspiring battle strategy when it comes to utilizing this kit. If u do, I'd like to hear it!

I tried this kit once and was not impressed. The magic resistance is very powerful, but, it is more than offset by not being able to use anything magical.

Cumulative spell failure sucks. Will not each individual hit interrupt the mage anyhow? What the hell were they smoking.

I would advise you to read the link below. Wizard Slayers can solo the game and that cumulative spell failure gets THROUGH the Stoneskin - you can't kill a mage because of a stoneskin or a Mirror Image. But you can make sure it wo't do you any harm.

    Now the link: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002714.html

Well that was educational. I really liked the time where he couldn't summon anything to put on the altar in the Underdark, so he charmed a Kao-Tao with a mindflayer collar and led it to the altar :D Playing solo makes you think. So here's what I think about a Wiz Slayer=> a dwarf seems to fit the bill good, one with high constitution for reasons of hitpoints and regen. A wiz slayer in a party is one thing, a solo is another.

Personally thought if you're planning to go through the game without dual classing yer better off with a monk in place of a Wiz Slayer as they get ALOT of magic resistance and are melee gods by the time yer through soa (they get even better in ToB) if you're willing to dual class they're an ok base I guess... But I never use em.

Toying around a bit I made a dc lvl-13 wiz-slayer/ thief for ToB ... really nice to have once you have the thiefs "use-all-items" special ability. Unfortunately you'll have to wait till thiefs-lvl-23 or 24 'till you get it :(
So you can't use any rings, necklaces and strength girdles to that point ... therefore I think this is the only fighter kit worth to be played with a half-orc.

out of curiosity, does the magic disruption effect work on bards, clerics and druids too?

or liches, dragons, and beholders for that matter...

I can think of a few things in the game that cast magic that don't just die once they take a few hits, that would make the cumulative disruption effect very usefull.

I am really amazed that people are handicapping themselves with one of the worst kits in BG and succeeding in soloing with it -- the creativity of it all! (Thanks to Earl Grey).

It only remains to be seen if anybody here can come up with a kit *worser* than the wizard slayer

[IMG] Beastmasters suck because they can't use metal weapons.

Beastmasters are limited in weapons - staves, clubs, and slings only I believe, but at least they can use magical items.

It's great to see that you appreciate Gloin Bonehead's journey! :D

    To ArtEChoke:
IIRC the spell casting failure did not work on dragons, liches and beholders. It should work on bards, druids and clerics although I can't remember.

Druids have Iron Skin, but you don't meet any good druid.
Clerics take so long in casting spells they will be interrupted anyway and since they don't have iron/stone skin they are easy targets.

    To Brega:
Beastmaster is not that bad. Their single limitation of not using metal weapons is mostly a psychological problem. You and I - and Boo ;) - want to use the fancy weapons, but there are other that will do fine. One example is Quarter staff and Short Bow. You can buy a +4 Q-staff at Adventurer's Mart first thing if you want and that will work against all the tough monsters.

Ahh yes the Staff of Rynn +4.

Eh what's this a grammatically correct topic??? What's up with the wiz slayer??? It was "What up with the Wiz Slayer", oh well I was going for the ghetto effect but I guess not... ;)

Don't. You just make extra work for the mods that have to fix headlines.

I don't think it's really necessary for moderators to edit people's dialects. What next, are you gonna go through the game and change all Korgan's lines to King's English? (-:

What up with the Wiz Slayer is no dialect, sorry. It looks like writing of a 10 year old, nothing else. Or some ignorant that can't be bothered to write normally. You haven't got a clue how many topic headlines have to be fixed by mods on a daily basis because people make them so lame. (Not that this one was in urgent need of changing, since I left it be long enough, but it annoyed me so I fixed it eventually.)

[IMG] I fully agree. By at least trying to write and spell correctly more people will be able to understand the posts.
Worse are those who try to look oh so hot by (mis-)using words like l33t. IMO it just looks pathetic in a place such as this. Is there a reason for using hack slang outside it's own subculture?

Bottom line is let's not make the forum harder to read.

The wizzard slayer's known advantages don't make up the many negative restrictions this kit has. The only useful combination using this kit is the wizzard slayer/thief dual, that I read somewhere on the ToB board. Read that and you'll know why it is good.
