A bit late in response but I don't know if they could have found a worse way to end it-possible but not likely. They ruined or damaged most of the characters that were still in the series. This season was increasingly devoid of logic or consequences for actions (note both the plot armor and plot insanity of some characters). I suspect some of this may be due to D and D getting the opposite of what they needed from GRRM-by that I mean a bizarre and unhappy ending instead of the details to justify a surprising event. D and D arguably would have been better off writing their own ending to a story that was increasingly theirs rather than GRRM that fit the characters as they developed over the seasons but no..

There have been some great reviews on Youtube in relation to this very badly ended season.

Some of the more recent reviews (negative on it) have been great-warning each of these 2 is good but over an hour long

    Shorter youtubes:

Short (15 minutes or less) videos pointing out detail screwups and contradictions:

How season 8 damaged themes related to the show.

    It made its characters stupid

    Damaged those characters

Review of and suggested changes for the last 2 shows (has a fair amount of jokes but also some points).
    Episode five

    Episode six

So instead of just straight up killing the main characters, they get character assassination?

If GRRM did write this ending, I get the feeling he just enjoys trolling the viewers (or his readers).

I don't think a whole lot of blame lies on GRRM for this disaster. He had no direct control over the ending and no great love for the TV series after it departed from the books. That's not to say his creative input didn't affect how things ultimately turned out, I just think we're better off shifting the blame to the actual show-runners.

Also, I think most of us are more than happy to forget the last season ever existed.
