Are the original BG and BG2 no longer on sale on steam?

I don't recall BG ever being available in non-EE form on Steam. GOG still sells them though.

You sure about that? I just checked, but I think I only see the EEs on GoG as well. I have the originals in my library at GoG, but then, I had Fallout 1&2 at GoG as well, even when they stopped selling it after Interplay sold the license to Bethesda. But I don't see the non-EE versions on GoG anymore.

Huh, you're right. The store pages for the classic editions have been removed and it seems the classic versions are now bundled with the EE games. I guess it kinda makes sense from GOG's standpoint, but at the same time, that means you're forced to give money to Beamdog and that doesn't sit well with a lot of people. Not to mention Beamdog wants people to pay a hefty price for the soundtracks, which used to be free with the purchase of the classics, so it's basically just them ripping people off for the content they didn't make. Way to get on people's bad sides.

Yea, the original versions are only available bundled with the EEs since they've been released.

If it's the same on Steam and GoG, I don't think they came up with the idea itself, probably the owners of the IP or Beamdog said it should be bundled. But for the €20 that they want you to pay for the EEs, it does feel like they're ripping you off.

From what I can tell, it's Beamdog that requested that they be bundled together since they obviously wanted the revenue, especially after the expansion fiasco. GOG agreed because most customers are clearly oblivious to all of the drama and they just want to play the game. This way they can reduce confusion and choice paralysis.

And now the store page is chockful of bomb-reviews, pushing potential customers away anyway. Oh well.

Yeah, there's a lot of bad blood there. But regardless of Beamdog's actions and reputation, the EEs are a blessing.

Maybe, though personally, I don't see much benefit. But I use only limited mods, anyway. And I'm not really willing to pay that much. Frankly, even on sale I still find it too expensive (for what it is).

I didn't really finish that thought. I was gonna say "a blessing for the modding community". They also revitalized the gaming community as a whole.
