Well, like four years ago I do not like either the Democratic or Republican candidate for Governor on the ballot.
There is a Libertarian candidate, but he's had absolutely no coverage in the press. I did like what he presented on his website, but I doubt he'll have much of a chance because nobody hears anything about him, while Rauner and Pritzker are regularly getting headlines, even if rarely on the front page (usually in the middle of section 1 of the Daily Herald).

I really don't want Rauner re-elected, but due to recent revelations I think if we vote in Pritzker we'll have another Blago (who was impeached while in office and jailed for corruption).
Kash Jackson seems like the best person for the job given the choices, but has had no press coverage. I haven't heard any ads on the radio either (I haven't been watching much TV lately, so I have no clue on that department.).

Is it really a wasted vote to be voting for who I think is the best candidate in this scenario? I'm almost certain that Pritzker would be better than Rauner, but not by much.

Odd thing, at work I've talked with people, and almost a dozen people have expressed dissatisfaction with the Democratic and Republican candidates, but none had heard of this "Kash Jackson", and dismissed voting for him as a "wasted vote". They say that doing so would split the Pritzker vote, and that would simply assure that Rauner remains in the Governor's Mansion.

I'm not sure they are entirely wrong, because a lot of people hate Rauner and are voting Democratic simply to kick him out of office. That's the real problem, I'm certain if everyone voted their conscious instead of this strategic voting the third party candidates would have a better chance. That, and if the press covered everyone who managed to make the ballot equally, which is rather difficult in Illinois.

The third party candidate causes a splitting of the vote and cause the candidate you least like to win. Ross Perot gave us eight years of Clinton and Ralph Nader gave us eight years of George Bush. Depending on where you are politically these were either fantastic results or abysmal. This is the reason when I vote I always vote for someone who has a chance to win.

Ain't no such thing as a wasted vote, Donald Trump is in the White House.

Andrew Yang is gonna pay me $1000 a month to vote for him so the choice is clear.
