The GOG reviews are very good so it looks like a safe bet, but I don't have any experience with it.

I've played it and it is high quality ARPG. I like the developers listening to the community and I like their design choices mostly.

Any particular questions? It's like Diablo 2 a bit (these games are descendants). I haven't played Warcraft. But GD is one of my favorite games.

If you like it you can then get an expansion Ashes of Malmouth and they are having a second expansion come out soon.

As far as Diablo clones go, I'm more of a Path of Exile fan, but Grim Dawn isn't bad by any means.

Everyone keeps comparing games to Diablo, yet I compared Diablo to Rogue as did most others back when it was released. Although it was much more like Moria.

Does nobody else remember games like Rogue, Moria, Omega, or even Angband?
Am I just showing my age? The first three had Apple IIGS ports that I first played them on.

Who's "most others"? I don't know anyone who vehemently compared Diablo to Rogue-like games after release, although it was literally based on Moria. The few Rogue-like elements quickly took a backseat to its fast-paced action combat, engaging graphics and sounds, and fun story elements. It was so influential that it basically started a genre of its own and that was that. I've only seen parallels drawn in passing by various reviewers, but the rogue-likes of old played very differently, and I don't feel the need to compare them to Diablo any more than I need to compare Golden Box games to Baldur's Gate.

I noticed the similarity to Moria the very first time I played it. So did quite a few people in 2000 at NIU.
If anything, we considered it a modernized spiritual successor of Moria. The action combat was the major difference, but otherwise it was much the same thing as Moria but with modern graphics and sound, as opposed to 1980's text-based interfaces. Moria had no sound at all, or at least the Apple IIGS version of uMoria did not.
