    i have a kensai (level 13) who needs to start putting proficiency points into a blunt weapon.

    He’s got:

    ***** in scimitar
    *** in two weapon fighting
    * in club
    * in dagger
    * in short sword

    I want a blunt weapon as a backup. I stopped leveling thief at level 11, but now I have the XP to go to level 14 as a thief and really shine.

    Do I go for hammer, mace, flail or club?

    Hammer will net me aishideena to penetrate stone skin and Crom Faeyr to instantly slay golems. CF will also just be an awesome Main hand weapon when I’m not backstabbing.

    Mace gives me the mace of disruption, which is very useful at many parts of this game.

    Flail is for the Flail of Ages, which is another incredible weapon.

    Club isn’t as good as the above options, but I’d reach grandmastery in it 4 levels before any other weapon.

    What do you guys think? What would be your recommendation?

    Hammer, probably. Though it's too late to be of much use, there's the Runehammer as well, which will also destroy undead.

    The Flail of Ages is awesome, but only if it still has that special free action on it in the final version, in which it doesn't prevent you from being hasted by the boots of haste.

    Mace is pretty good as well, but mostly for the mace of disruption.

    On the other hand, none of these options allow backstabbing, so for that alone it would be useful to go clubs instead. Not that there's much good clubs, unless they were added in the EE. Or if you have Item upgrade installed. There's the club of detonation in ToB / WK, but not much beyond that.
