[IMG]Extra Credits examines Baldur's Gate's Durlag's Tower and uses it as an example on how to make Dungeons great again.

Learn how game designers make dungeons by looking at one of the greatest teaching examples in gaming history: Durlag's Tower from Baldur's Gate.

Only the game designers didn't invent Durlag's Tower OR place it there just so that people could accidentally stumble upon it, but because the spot on the map there was still free for TotSC content. :heh:

Yeah, Don't you HAVE to go to go to Ulgoth's Beard to even access it?

No, you can go to it at any time. You can get in Ulgoth's Beard some quests that direct you to the tower, though. Plus, Ike's awesome tour.

Game content design is one part skill, one part talent, one part lucky coincidence. The video creators might be reading a bit too much into it, but Durlag's Tower is absolutely a very well designed dungeon and a good template to get a would-be dungeon master or game designer started.

I get the feeling they're reading a bit too much into it at some points, though they do point out a lot of things that I hadn't really thought about, but that some designer must have thought about.
