I'm playing through IWD II and got as far as the Ice Temple. So far so good, but the prism gadget is broken (not entirely sure when that happened!) and I can't seem to fix it.
I've tried using the temple maintenance setting in the games room but the golem just tells me all systems are functioning normally. Am I missing something or is this a known bug?

(Because I'm a numpty who hasn't played for years I forgot to install the patch straight away, though I've downloaded it now. From what I remember from back then the patch should fix bugs even in games that are part way through, but could be that's not the case after all.)

Can you rotate the prism with the controls?

Ok, I eventually worked out that the prism is fine, I'd just overlooked the control switches in the corner of the room and was expecting it to rotate by the same mechanism as the dais.

The broken stuff is the mystery magical device in the adjacent room, one component of which has apparently been damaged by a powerful explosion.
Can't seem to interact with anything useful to do with this machine - is it a plot/quest that didn't make it into the final game? I remember there were lots of these in BG2 and a handy mod to reinstate them.

There's a number of different uses for the Prism, each of them quest related.

I'll try not to spoil anything for you. What I'll say for now is that if you run into another part of the level where you're stuck and can't make progress, remember and think back to the Prism.
