But Harbs, Spotify is a digital service that streams CD quality audio ... you're missing out on the warmth of LPs! ;)

    Holy resurrection Batman.

On topic, I got rid of all my records and turntables years ago.

Recently, I have also gotten rid of all my VHS tapes and I no longer own a VCR.

    Infinite Wisdom ?

In the 1970's I was worried that playing my vinyl records again and again would eventually wear them out and I had a Wollensak reel to reel tape. I spent many long hours recording my collection to tape at a space saving 1 3/4 inches per second. Ended up with a 1800 foot reel with my treasures saved. Well, over the years the Wollensak died and no one around would or could repair it as they had become obsolete but I still have the tape. Its in the same box with my 8 track tapes, safely stored ?????

Couple days ago when I was taking junk from our cellar to the hazardous waste collection point I found this and immediately scavenged it:

It's Dual 1019 and it works. I don't know anything about it really, I'd like to know how old it is. I was thinking to take it to shop for maintenance.

Nice! According to the Dual webpage, these were produced between '65 and '71 and were the first turntables with Anti-skating. :) If it doesn't have Anti-skate, it's from '65-'69.

Those things are quite heavy, but sturdy. There's probably a lot of ... (dunno what thye word in English would be) dried up silicone / "hard fat" inside. Is the "steuerpimpel" still functioning (does the arm automatically swing onto the disk properly)?

I've had record player for a year or two now. Used to belong to my late granddad.

I really dig the sound of vinyl nowadays. Especially now that everything in digital format is brickwalled.
