Hey, I just bought this game on-line (so I'm awaiting delivery), and honestly I'm pretty excited to play this one!
I read a few reviews (which is how I found this site) and they all are very positive, but all point out a few flaws, because every game has some.
So I was wondering if there is any helpful things you can tell me about this game to make my first impression and first play through a thoroughly enjoyable one? :)

Increase your wisdom to 18 at the start and try to talk to as many people as you can, including your companions.

Don't use any mods, don't look at any walkthoughs, don't ask too many questions. Try to immerse yourself in the game and avoid spoilers.

You only get one shot to play this game for the first time. DO NOT WASTE THAT by metagaming or reading anything about it.

    Seriously.

I suggest the Widescreen Mod along with ghostdog's GUI that will work awesomely with the widescreen-Mod and the latest fixes.

I also humbly suggest you visit the link below. It's a guide to bring ol' Torment into 2012 and that link to the mod's mentioned above and short intro on what they do.
None of those mods are considered gamechangers.

So I hope you will play the best Planescape there is.

    Enjoy the Planes!

You can add NPCs to your "Party" like the BG series, BUT this game is completely different than BG, though only in a good way. This is more Role-play, less Combat per se. It is the most unique of any D&D game you will play and it characters are very colorful. The dialogues are immense and you really need to pay attention to what is said. Your choices are very impactful. This game will require your full attention at all times.

It's one of the all-time great CRPGs, listen to DMC, go in fresh and you will not regret it.:)

Wow, I got some pretty sweet responses! :D
I might experiment with some mods, but not until after my first play-through.
If you use mods straight away then you'll never know what the real game is like. :p
How well would a Rogue type character play in this kind of game?

Concerning the rogue type, just try him out and judge for yourself ^^.
You can switch freely between the three classes anyway, not very long after the beginning.

The game arrived today, I have played it for a little, not too long.
It's amazing! I just don't like how he says things almost every time you click to move :p
Definitely a unique game, never played anything like it. :)

The game has awesome dialogues, so talk to EVERYONE. Morte is funny and helpful, so if you're stuck or in need of some laughs, talk to him. :D

To my knowledge, there is an issue in PS:T which has not yet been fixed (-> my best friend played it about 18 months ago and encountered this problem, being unable to finish the game).

I won't spoil anything, but there is an end-game location where you cannot proceed if you have a very low wisdom, due to saving throws which can not be passed during combat.
So, I would say, do your first run without any metagaming/walkthroughs (really, else you will regret it), but I wouldn't roll less than 12-14 WIS.

Good luck and have a nice experience! imho This is the best crpg story-wise, ever!

    EDIT:

A small PM exchange arose some doubts :p
The stat that causes the above issue is either WIS or CON.

IIRC, the issue occurs at values below 10... about 8 or so. Can't exactly remember what the saving throw was... sorry, it wasn't my own run, but the problem exists.

I just wanted to say that I share Oxymoron's enthusiasm. I played a lot of BG I&II but somehow I missed PST. Normally I try to maximize my character's power and what-not and metagame. This time though I'm just "getting into it" and basically just talking to everyone. I think Reekwind deserves some kind of reward for most memorable character. My advice to Oxy would be the same as others, just relax and take in the superb writing.
