Anyone think this will even dent the claims of the loonies (pun intended) who insist that no one ever made it to the moon and walked there?

I think it won't make a bit of difference.

It won't. Especially not in the age of Photoshop.

These must be updated pics; I posted about the preliminary LRO pics a while back. You can look at that thread to see if anyone was convinced :)

BTW, you missed out on a opportunity to try out your thread necromancy skills! :)

That's obviously a carefully orchestrated satellite photo of the Hollywood soundstage where they staged the 'moon landing.'

Nah, it's just another part of the conspiracy. If they could fake the lunar landings 42 years ago, they could also fake a few pictures today. :p

Yes it will. That will happen right after you convince Gnarff that the Bible is not meant to be read as literal history, convince NOG that it's OK to have sex before you're married, and convince martaug that Obama is a natural born US citizen and not a socialist.

OOOh, potshots at present and former members who aren't even here -- bad form, my dear fellow, bad form indeed.

BTA- necromancy is an excluded school of magic for me, sorry (that and, apparently, memory :p )

One interesting deviation from the norm with those who don't believe in the moon missions is that they think something didn't happen. Normally it's that somethind did happen and it's being covered up - aliens, JFK, Bigfoot, Elvis, etc.

The moon landing is one conspiracy theory I never understood the point of. For most conspiracy theories, ranging from the JFK assassination to Bush having knowledge of the 9/11 attacks, you can see why they get started. But who has anything to gain by saying we never went to the moon? It just seems to be a dumb place to grind one's axe.

I have a friend who is big on conspiracy theories. He totally believes Bush setup the attacks on 911, he totally believes that there was a second shooter in JFK assassination, and a host of other asinine conspiracy theories, and even he thinks the people who don't believe we ever made it to the moon are idiots.

I think the conspirationists have found out that it is impossible to go to the moon (because the Van Allen belts would kill the astronauts, or whatever). And of course so did NASA during the 1960s. Problem was, Kennedy had promised that America would go to the moon within a decade, so they had to fake the lunar landings, to save face. If only before the Soviets set up their fake lunar landings in Kazakhstan or whereever.

My take on the conspiracy theory is, if NASA wanted to set up six or seven fake lunar landings, they'd have to involve several thousand people in it, and make them all shut up about it forever after, and make sure they didn't leave any letters to be opened after they died. Plus send up fake rockets from Cape Kennedy, pick up fake control modules in the sea a week later, plus... etc. It would be much easier to just build a working rocket, stick three astronauts in it and send it to the moon.

Someone I knew was also firmly convinced that what occupied the center of Earth was not lava. No no, it's not even hot. Little gray creatures live there but the general populaton doesn't know because the government covers it up.

If people believe that, they can believe anything...

    what difference does it make

what difference does it make if we went or if it was faked? we havent established a moon base or a mining colony or anything so we may as well not have bothered. Plus if we went, all of the people who knew how to do it/how to solve problems are gone - we probably couldnt go back if we wanted to.

    Errr, whachoo talkin' about Willis?

I've got to assume that if one of the astronauts that walked on the moon is around, some of the people that sent him there must be too.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Aldrin

Not only is he still around, but he's been Dancing with the Stars. Literally, I guess.

    live

    they might be alive still
but they were fired/got new jobs/or are too old for that kind of work.
Theres plenty of reason to go - solving the energy crisis with helium3 gotten from the moon - but we arent even attempting to get our act together on it so we probably cant go.
