    Well, at 19.5 I left to serve a mission for the LDS church. I had saved my own damn money and paid for the thing myself. I was on another continent, so in a sense that qualifies, though my parents were very supportive.

    When I came back I lived with my parents while I went to University. Got married at around 23 or so and moved out then.

    When I was 22 me and my girlfriend got a crummy apartment. We lived there for 5 years. Until her Grandma died and her parents had a 900sqft house on their acreage that she had been living in that we've moved into while I go back to school.

    18 or 19 for me. I had a full time job in college, and worked full time every summer. I paid my own rent, insurance, and medical benes...I got help on tuition, so I don't know if that counts or not?

    Here's something I find rather odd. There's hardly anyone in this thread that moved out in their early 20s - which I expected to be the most common ages. I expected a lot of people to say they either went to college or learned a trade and got a job in their early 20s. However, it's like people either left as soon as they finished high school, or they continued their educaiton into their mid-20s.

    When I was 23. I was the first who left the nest without getting married (like my sis and brother). It was just a few weeks or months after my father died and I felt quite bad leaving my mother alone in that big house.
