Oh yeah, wise guy!! I also put my kids on a plane to visit my folks in Florida this morning and then played seven sets of tennis outdoors. Without having to shovel off snow off the court.

    Ha!

Wow... Rose Bowl. I used to remember they aired those New Year Rose Bowl parade here when I was a kid. Haven't watch TV for a number of years now so I'm not sure if they still do that.

    Happy New Year everyone.

Is there anything better than the first sip of coffee on a cold winter morning ? The odour of glory, the taste of comfort, the soft bitterness of this beverage gently warm my body.

    Coffee, I love thee

    *stumbles out of cave*

uhhnn... Was really really busy at work in december. It took two weeks of doing nothing on my holiday vacation to resurrect me. Yay!

ION, If I buy the UK version of the Witcher, will it work on my computer or is the region question only a factor with movies? Never bought a computer game out of the continent before...

Why would you import the game ? I've seen it available at a retail store, though that was some time ago. You could also buy it through online distribution, I think Steam offers it. That way you wouldn't have to pay import taxes and whatnot.

However to answer your question; as far as I know, it shouldn't apply.

Regional lock-down was mainly a technological thing. Before the advent of HD* TV, most of Europe used PAL or SECAM which had slightly different resolutions and refresh frequency which makes it incompatible with the NTSC standard of North America. I don't think this applies to computers.

    PAL is 720 x 576, while NTSC is 720 x 480.

Another reason to regional lock-down is market distribution. Distributors wanted to control what content was available to which market. They wanted to discourage imports of a movie into a region which it wasn't distributed yet.

    * I may be wrong, but I think HD (either 1080 x 720 or 1920 x 1080) is the same resolution used in the western hemisphere.

A friend of mine gave me the game which he acquired... ahem... unlawfully. I had all kinds of problem with it, and it doesn't work anymore so I want to get buy a version since I want to play. I dislike Steam very much and I would rather buy it physically rather than download it because I just re-sintalled windows and will be redownloading a lot of stuff (all of it legal, mind you).

And as far as I know, only the UK version is uncensored. It's not that I really want to see naked ladies, but the concept of a censored game infuriates me. It's a matter of principle... honestly!

Aye, I dislike the principle of censorship as well. If your intent was to see naked ladies, there are far easier way to get pornography without resorting to games. I never understood the concept of a porn game, what's the point ?

anyyyyyway, I think the game should work.

Edit: Still waiting for the books I ordered through amazon.ca, they've been sitting in Mississauga since 12/31 :( I want me books damnit. Mississauga is a mere 585 km (364 miles) away from Montréal, it shouldn't take that long.

Triactus, there's a patch to revert all the censored stuff (blood, sex cards, models).

I routinely buy the UK versions at Amazon.co.uk. Uncensored, and, more important, untranslated.

hehe, thanks Tal. I ended stopping at a game store last night. The clerks weren't sure at all they had any copies left since they're always short. However, one clerk found the last copy they had hidden in the backstore! Not only that, the game cost 4,51$, including tax (even though the old price tag on it said 49,99$).

After battling the stupid "you must run the game as an administrator" (even though I was), I finally got to enjoy it a bit... :)

ION, tiiiiiiiiiiired. I have to stop going to sleep late. I guess I dread going to work in the morning and I try to stretch the evening as much as I can... :bad:

Same here. I don't nearly sleep enough, and I loathe going to bed before 1am. If I go to be earlier it feels like a 'lost evening'. Curiously, I found I work best from 16:00 to 21:00.
