    B*tch Slap.
Meh... This movie is about chicks with weapons and boobs covered in sweat, oil, blood, mud or all. As a heterosexual bloke I ought to like that, right? I thought it was pretty corny.

I saw The Crazies (2010) over the week-end. It wasn't too bad but I was expecting a little more. I also saw the Nightmare on elm street remake. That was painful to watch. I don't think the original was a masterpiece, but it certainly lightyears better than this sorry remake (I never really understood the idea of a remake... Dawn of the Dead was at the limit of acceptable since it added the "zombie running" element and had a completely different story).

    High Noon.

Haven't watched it since I was in school. It was an old movie even then.

Saw LET ME IN, Hollywood's remake of the Swedish Let the Right One In. It is a very good remake as it stayed faithful to the original. Some changes were made but it's not much and doesn't ruin things up. Acting was well done. If you've seen the original, this would felt like a re-watch with different actors. Otherwise, it's a great film, a vampire movie like you've never seen before. No sparkling skin and no need to choose team.

I saw The Lives of Others this week-end. Good movie, although I thought the main character (the stasi captain) wasn't developed enough. You don't really understand his evolution. But otherwise enjoyable!

Seen four movies the last few days: Despicable Me, Megamind, True Grit and Sorcerer's Apprentice. Of those four I liked Despicable me the best, Megamind was pretty much the same movie just worse. True Grit, dunno if it will sweep the awards but it was a good movie as for Sorcerer's Apprentice it was truly awful. You could see every scene coming from a mile away and everything was really poorly done, hell you knew what the characters were going to say before they said it most of the time. To summarize, the Sorcerer's Apprentice is a really really bad movie.

Just saw this movie called Nanking! Nanking! (or known as The City of Life and Death in the Western World). Its the Chinese equivalent of Schindler's List (but centered on the Nanjing massacre/Rape of Nanking). Only much, much more distressing. Such a depressing movie, yet a movie one must watch at least once. One part of the movie was so surreal that it will stick in your mind for days to come.

I know I doing a touch of thread necromancy here-but it is worth it because this is the closest thread there is (that I know of) with a sort of running movie commentary.

I saw Source Code not that long ago and I thought it was a good movie-money had not been wasted.

It isn't as good as Moon (done by the same director) but it was a good movie.

And Moon was an exceptional film that is hard to replicate-though I suspect having a skilled director helped. And I'll keep a bit of an ear out for other projects this person is involved in.

Just had to post about the Three Musketeers, probably the cheesiest movie I have ever seen. Truly awful but it is actually awful enough that you get some enjoyment out of watching it. Truly horrendous.

I recently saw Underworld: Awakening. Not bad. Quint was a pretty bad-ass Lycan. Also an obvious attempt to keep the franchise going well beyond when Beckinsale gets too old to keep it going.

This thread's been quiet for a while.

Watched Gravity a while back. Or rather, I tried to watch it, then got annoyed at the constant whining and panting and grunting and hyperventilating of Sandra Bullock. When they moved orbits from the Hubble space telescope to the ISS I had to check, because I was pretty sure they're not even on the same orbital plane.

Checking on the actual orbits of the places was as good an excuse as any to get away from the film. Turns out that although their orbital altitude is fairly close (I doubt close enough that you could manage with the reaction mass in the jetpack, at least not within their time frame, but whatever), the orbital planes are completely different. The orbits may intersect from time to time when they cross over the equator (aside from the altitude difference), but they'd only have caused the premature destruction of the ISS by ramming their faces straight through it.

    Nerdrage vented.

I might have overlooked the lack of science in a good movie, but the constantly hyperventilating and panicking main character (pretty much only character, too) was too annoying.

Saw "The Monuments Men". There were a lot of very good performances, but it really didn't seem like a fluid movie.
