Formatted my computer

    [IMG] Not optimistic here...

I formatted my computer a while ago, and copied my BG2 directory onto my other hard drive, hoping to be able to continue post-format. Subsequently read in a thread here (can't remember which?) that this is very unlikely to work...

Unsurprisingly, it didn't. I reinstall and copy the whole backed-up directory on top of it, all kinds of crazy errors emerge, and the game won't even start. Any tips on salvaging my game? I can just copy over all the mods etc, and as I have my weidu log I can reinstall them in the correct order, but from past experience this makes for a huge instability problem that I was hoping to avoid.

    Really rather not restart...

    Thanks muchly for any help.

I'd say your best bet at this point is to reinstall BG2 exactly as you had it previously (using your weidu log as a guide). Then your save games from the previous PC, in theory, should work.

It should, but as I said, every time I've tried in the past (with a different save) it's either been buggy as hell or just crashes the instant I load the game. But unless there's a better option I suppose that's all I can do...

[IMG] I must confess to be an annoying sod here and say I've never had problems transferring games over systems.

The only time I did was when I forgot the official patch before modding the game up.

Then again I only use a small hdful of mods at a time, I have no idea how many you are using so am unsure if that is helpful at all.

Also ensure to check compatability files to see if putting data there or alterring the files there helps (such as the .ini)

Ah, yes, "compatibility files" -- Bill Gates' little undocumented middle finger to the Vista user....

Out of curiosity, what do you consider small HD nowadays? 40 gigs? Or you mean ancient ones at below 10 gig? ;)

Nevertheless, it's a whole lot of mods. :D

I took my laptop to my parents so of course my damn cat had a lie down on it and I'm still getting the fluff out of the keys :(
