Help with resting required

Either there is some sort of bug in my game, or I am missing out on some vital information.

I play through the game all the way through freeing Trias from his prison, with resting working fine. Then I come to Fhjull Fork-Tongue, and no matter what I try, I can't rest at his house. So, I can't heal and I also can't restore my spells and (more importantly) my Raise the Dead ability before leaving for Baator. Since I used all my healing charms, I'm basically screwed.

So I start a new game, and play it all the way through to that same spot again. This time, I buy 50 Blood Charms before I leave for the Curst Underground. This gets me through Baator OK.

Now, I'm reading through Montresor's walkthrough, and it says I can rest at the gate to Carceri. I can't. There's no dialogue option for it. It also says I can rest in the Distiller's in Carceri. I can't. There's no dialogue option for it. Now I'm down to my last 20 Blood Charms, no more Raise the Deads, and damned few spells. And still, I can't rest.

Please help me. Please tell me there's some way to spontaneously rest without dialogue, or that this is a bug and I can fix it. I'm beginning to believe that I will never complete this game because I can't rest once I leave Curst Prison.

To rest without dialogue, press the Rest button at the bottom right on the screen (the one that looks like an hourglass).

In Fhjull's home you have to get his permission first. In Curst Gone, you must be near the gate to Carceri, and there must not be any enemies nearby.
