Valid point. Well, does it double as a gift certificate to an escort service from Las Vegass then?

Yeah, Nevada definitely counts as local. Especially as far as prostitution goes.

By wearing a cap and tassel to a strip club in Vegas, all graduates should get a free VIP lap dance!

    In other work related news...
Our automation servers went down for about 2 hours last night. It was great...we literally couldn't do any work while the system was down. After the first hour, our mini-boss sent us out on break. :D

    Aaargh!

[IMG] On Monday and Tuesday I had to work for an 'old school' colleague, who works in 'what you see is what you get' mode only and likes paper, a lot that is. For the corrections she handed me some 200 pages of unsorted search output, without search phrase (i.e. difficult to reproduce), smeared with highlighter and hieroglyphic scribbling, and additional pages with unsorted copied coded text of 'errors' and screen shots in a word document. For good measure and ease of read the screen shots were put into tables which cells were smaller than the screen shots. I would have liked to beat her with the rolled paper. Amazingly, in that bloody mess I saw a mere five types of errors, and when I started to address them directly, it brought me the accusation to 'ignore working instructions' that she laboriously manufactured (which, as she added, also insulted her personally), and she apparently expected me to work them through line by line, file by file. No thanks. Regular expressions are there for a reason, and I *DO NOT* correct hundreds of files manually when I can do so in an automated process in a fraction of the time, and without errors.

As if that wasn't annoying enough I had to share my room with some of the Turkish girls my boss hired for the tedious monkey work of doing manual corrections. If there are more than two of them are in a given room at a given time the inevitable result is a lively kaffeeklatsch. I find it difficult to formulate and test regular expressions in such an environment.

They have the annoying habit of switching to Turkish when someone else enters the room, something that I consider impolite, in particular at work, because it excludes non-Turkish speaking colleagues from the conversation. And if it can't be talked about in German, then it obviously doesn't belong to work. They don't get that.

Anyway, when I asked them to be quiet because I really had my hands full they were *insulted*. When I returned to my place after asking them to be quiet I overheard one of them say, half in Turkish, that she found it impertinent of me to ask her to be quiet, after all the work is so boring that when she doesn't get to talk, she would fall asleep. Yes, that poor thing. I warmly apologised for my work interfering with her entertainment :) She apparently had a vague, faint feeling I was being sarcastic, but that didn't suffice to induce any self doubt. Instead, she looked pleased, and kept on chatting. Moron.

If she and her incorrigible colleagues are so ****ing bored, I would have done them a favour and sent them home, both to teach'em and punish them financially, under the label of 'providing them relief from all the boring work they have to do'. But alas, sadly I am not their superior. Also, they don't appear to be aware of them having done anything wrong. It's just their way, little spoiled princesses that they are.

Oh yes, and I was under a deadline to finish my work till Tuesday at noon. Fun!

I eventually succeeded in being only two hours behind schedule, at the price of being royally pissed off. I filed a complaint with my boss both about the old school colleague (be it only to pre-empt her complaining about my independence by establishing an alternative narrative in advance) and the princesses (just because it was about time anyway).

Applied for another fast food job because I really wasn't liking the management at the new restaurant.

Hopefully I can find 35-50 hours a week between whichever new job I get and the old one.

I also found that when I go back to school I can get a degree in Exercise Science and Health to prepare for physical therapy school. It's awesome because I have a friend in the same program already.

Thinking back it is good that I didn't get any clearer with the Turkish colleague who gave the moronic comment. In my experience Turks have a hard time admitting mistakes. They see that as losing face, even when they totally screwed up and get caught red handed. I was ... the computer, or the files were broken already ... or just my lying eyes and ears. Giving her a dressing down would have produced just that. I'm glad I didn't do it.

She's the petty type. She would have made something up just to 'get even'.

Bottom line: Our department needs to avoid such ethnic clusters. In a proper ethnic mix these people are far less trouble.

What do you mean no inspiration? Write about me! :D

Or, you could always write about a boy who was raised in a library village but learned he was the son of a murder god... :p

Make sure to count the words, and when you have 4,978 you end the story with "And then [CHARNAME] and his companions went to Baldur's Gate and were ambushed and killed by bandits on the way. The end"

Or leave 34 words out and end the story with : ''And then [CHARNAME] and his companions went to Baldur's Gate and were ambushed and captured by thieves on the way. They were brought to a powerful mage, but that is another story. The end". :)

I may be losing my seasonal job at Target soon. Starting next week, everyone's hours are getting cut. As for all the seasonal newbs, none of us work at all the week after next. Who gets to stay, and who gets the boot is still unknown. :bad:

If I get kicked to the curb....oh well. I didn't need that job anyway. But I did enjoy it.

So I got a new job, sort of... Which is great because in the TV industry in Canada, it's a deadzone out there. A lot of good people are jobless. The only downside is that it's an 1 hour 20 min drive from my home.

They said they would hire me for the winter. In the meantime, the boss wanted me to come for the 21rst, 22nd and 23rd of December to help the technical director with all the organization of the files that are on the company's network as well as implement a system for a kind of library of all the shooting tapes they have. Eventually, the 27th, 28th and 29th were added. All is well and good.

However, I only worked one of the days (22nd) and I basically did nothing. Each day I was supposed to work, I kept calling the guy and he said he would call me back but didn't and eventually, I called him another time and he would say it was too late in the day to do anything. I even called him last night to know if I was working today (since he didn't answer the e-mail I sent Thursday).

The stuff I was supposed to help him with are like installing a network, and installing a RAID drive. I have no clue what I'm doing! Today, I had to clean up an editor's work drive, but how the hell do I know what's good and what's trash? I probably looked slow and mentally deficient cause I was trying to understand what the hel I was doing (plus, I'm a PC guy and I was working on a MAC...)

And tomorrow is a big meeting about the coming year and the next project. I was to supposed to go to the meeting and even come earlier to help the guy with the stuff, but they called me an hour after I left the office to tell me I was not needed at the meeting and it wasn't necessary for me to come earlier because they were in the processes of re-assigning the jobs around the office. wtf?? Are they telling me I'm no longer needed or am I reading too much into this? If they are letting me go, it would seriously suck because I had to go to a lot of trouble to change my ''official'' residence to get the job (I had to live in Ontario, not Québec)... I guess I'll know more tomorrow...

Sorry for the long post, I had to get it out... :almostmad:

Sweet! Seeing as how Canada has a 13 month winter, it must be nice having some job security... :p

As for me, the only thing I have to rant about is that school is back as of today. :bad:

Just spent eight hours doing nothing but dishes, alone, with no breaks. Against labor laws, not fun, and I think I'm done with this place.
