[IMG]The old Baldur's Gate is getting re-released by Interplay, tweaked to work on the computing power we have today. Resolution rejoices at this event and reminisces about the impact Baldur's Gate has had on us and on the genre:

Baldur’s Gate wasn’t a difficult game to learn. Its design allowed the modified AD&D Second Edition rule set to work its magic behind the scenes, leaving the player to concentrate on enjoying the experience of the narrative and characters. Knowing how the rule system worked and taking the time to master all the elements involved made the experience a little less punishing along the way. But the true magic behind the game was that, whatever the player’s level of knowledge, Baldur’s Gate remained accessible to all. Nothing was overly complicated, and the initially harsh combat simply encouraged a more cerebral approach. Simple controls and well designed menus kept things tidy and intuitive, all adding to its phenomenal success.

That means what? That it is going to need a dual-core machine and about 4 gig memory to run? (Which is the result of an effect known as the Great Moore's Law Compensator :p)

Not really. Probably just increasing the graphic range so it might not run as well on old, slow computers. But when you push the graphics up to maximum you will actually get something out of it.

Brings a tear to my eye.

Now if only they could make new IWD games, so many towns left to choose from :D.

I don't see anything official on the interplay website.
Neither do their forums show anything concerning a rerelease of BG.

As a matter of fact, as far as I am informed, they don't even have the rights anymore to publish AD&D stuff.

So as cool as this would be, I'd like to have some evidence.

Just following on from previous posts, Atari do hold the rights. Interplay staff confirm that these new releases are nothing to do with them :

    http://www.interplay.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1704&start=10

There are 7 different releases on sale now at Amazon UK at rather expensive prices. Since they've (Atari) released Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale 2 as stand-alone DVDs, it is probable that the expansions for all the other games are also now on DVD. Indeed the 'new' picture for the Baldur's Gate and IWD double-pack releases seem to bear this out e.g.:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002TOKQFY/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

(btw The recent re-release of the Fallout Collection DVD is the exception and is Interplay's release).
