I think it was internet search, though it could possibly have been a link. I was playing through BG2 after picking it up as part of a multipack (had never heard of it before). I was in the Underdark and that damn Nishruu(?) spell kept eating all my magic items, which didn't seem right. The fixpack from Baldurdash remedied that. Not sure where exactly sorcerer's place fits in but it does somehow!

I did an internet search when I was playing BG1 -- then lost the site and found it again with another internet search while playing SoA. It was the second time I noticed the forums, lurked for a while, then joined.

I will join the crowd, internet search on BG2 info. Spent some time lurking then I started posting first in the SoA forums and then everywhere. I even spent a year in the FAI.

Got the site recommended by my nephew.

I needed information on BG1 and BG2, downloaded walkthroughs, guides, and was lurking around a couple of months before I registered.

I found it while I was searching for some walkthroughs for BG 1, a year or so before I joined up on the boards.

Yea, I do. I offered to take up their content and put it on SP before they went belly-up, but got no response. Same story with all the BG fansites that tanked over the years, really. So much good content was lost because the site owners always took their content down along with their sites rather than to have it remain up on another site.

I'm sure I was just googling Baldur's Gate portraits. I used to spend hours searching for the "right" portrait for the character concept I'd just thought of. With my Ranger obsession nowadays, I normally just settle for the Kivan portrait and have done with it.

A "fellow student turned friend" (Faragon) told me about the site and the BoM. He was very fond of the BoM, because the place was easy to the eye (not too much screaming banners, no flashing avatars and signatures etc) and the admin actually did a good job at keeping the place friendly and organized. (no flaming, little stupidity, clear rules etc).

So I thought the place was worthy of being visited by someone like me. :p
Begin 2001 or so, I signed up under a different name. Later I wanted to change that to Jack of all Trades, but it was already taken. Kitiara, Sniper, Extremist, Shralp, Mathetais, Lokken, Slappy, Big B, Wildfire and Marnix/Headbanger ruled this place back then. Along with "Viconia's Boy Toy" and the "Confused Jerk", who's still here. (Along with some others, most likely)

*sigh* Nostalgia isn't what it used to be... :p

Same as a lot of folks, I was searching for BG2 mods. The first day I found some great mods (Item Upgrade, a nice portrait pack and a few others), and figured this was the place to come for them. I refreshed the homepage every day for a in hopes of a new"site update," hoping to see a new slew of hosted mods. But also on the homepage were the top 10 recent threads, and (shocker!) a few of the political ones caught my eye. I actually registered to tell an America basher where to stick it. :)
